Scoot launches priority transfer through Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Airlines' low-cost offshoot Scoot will launch its streamlined Scoot-Thru transfer service at Singapore on November 27.

Available to all passengers for SGD$16 (A$12.60) per connection if you pre-book online, or SGD$20 as a walk-up rate at the airport counter, it allows travellers to skip immigration and collecting their checked baggage during transit between Scoot flights and joint itineraries with Tiger Airways.

Officially dubbed 'Scoot-Thru with Changi Connects', the airline describes this as "a facilitated transfer service" that's all about:

  • No rush: Remain in the transit area of Singapore Changi Airport – simply proceed to the transfer desk to collect your boarding pass for the connecting flight;
  • No hassle: No need to go through Singapore immigration & customs, nor retrieve baggage and check them in again;
  • No worries: You’ll be put on the next Scoot or Tiger flight, without extra charge, should the connecting flight be delayed.

Scoot is the first airline to build upon Changi Connects, a new service provided by Changi Airport Group and one which the group hopes to extend to other low-cost airlines.

    Charging for interline is interesting.

    The "No Worries" part is very useful as it essentially provides insurance for missed connections on two bookings that aren't otherwise connected - something you couldn't otherwise get cover for under travel insurance.
