May's top Virgin Australia Velocity credit card sign-up deals

Looking to maximise your Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer credit card points with a shiny new piece of plastic? Then take a look at this month’s top deals, which place over 700,000 bonus Velocity points on the table, with as many as 120,000 bonus points from a single card application.

Without delay, here are this month’s best offers from American Express, Citibank, NAB, Virgin Money and Westpac.

1. American Express Platinum Business charge card

Leading the pack this month with an offer of 120,000 bonus Velocity points is the flagship American Express Platinum Business charge card – providing 120,000 Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points which can be converted into 120,000 Velocity points at a 1:1 rate.

Business owners can take advantage of this offer when applying by July 2 2018, charging $5,000 worth of purchases within the first three months and paying a $1,500 annual fee: although you can add up to 99 supplementary cards onto the account at no additional cost to earn points on all employees’ spend.

On those expenses, you’ll also earn up to two frequent flyer points per dollar spent with no pre-set spending limit on the account to get in your way, provided you can repay your bill in full every month.

2. AMEX Platinum Charge Card, Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card

For personal shoppers rather than business owners, the AMEX Platinum Charge Card and Virgin Money’s Velocity High Flyer Card are each tempting with up to 80,000 bonus Velocity points this month.

From American Express, that bonus can be yours when applying, paying a $1,200 annual fee and spending $3,000 on purchases within the first three months: unlocking 80,000 Ascent Premium points which can become 80,000 Velocity points with a 1:1 conversion, with an earn rate of up to three frequent flyer points per dollar spent.

Virgin Money’s deal instead provides 16,000 bonus Velocity points in each of the first five months where at least $3,000 has been spent on the card that month, totalling 80,000 Velocity points at the end of month five, for new customers that apply by September 2 2018 and pay a $289 annual fee. You can also earn up to one Velocity point per dollar spent on everyday purchases.

3. AMEX Business Explorer, Citi Prestige Visa Infinite credit cards

Next and with offers equal to 75,000 bonus Velocity points, the American Express Business Explorer and Citi Prestige Visa Infinite credit cards.

On the Business Explorer Card, customers can apply by July 2 2018, spend $3,000 on business purchases within the first three months and pay a $395 annual fee to earn 100,000 Membership Rewards Gateway points, which convert to Velocity at a 4:3 rate: giving 75,000 Velocity points.

Citibank instead tempts with 150,000 Citibank Rewards points for new customers who apply by June 30 2018, pay a $700 annual fee and spend at least $3,000 on purchases within 90 days of card approval, but applies a 2:1 conversion rate from Citibank Rewards to Velocity, pegging that treasure at 75,000 Velocity points.

4. Citi Visa Signature, Westpac Altitude Black AMEX + Mastercard, Velocity Flyer Visa credit cards

Serving up 60,000 bonus Velocity points, the Citibank Citi Visa Signature credit card, the Westpac Altitude Black American Express + Mastercard combo, and the Virgin Money Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Visa: the entry-level version of the higher-tier Velocity High Flyer card above.

With Citibank, you can apply by June 30 2018 and spend $3,000 on the card within 90 days of approval to unlock 120,000 Citibank Rewards points, equal to 60,000 Velocity points when transferred at a 2:1 rate, with an annual fee of $199 in the first year ($395 thereafter).

The more affordable Velocity Flyer Visa instead provides 20,000 bonus Velocity points in each of the first three months for customers who apply by September 2 2018 and spend at least $1,500 monthly, being a total of 60,000 bonus Velocity points at the end of the third month, aside an annual fee of only $64 in the first year and $129 ongoing.

Over at Westpac, your bonus points are broken up into two chunks: first, as 80,000 bonus Altitude points (40,000 Velocity points) when you apply by October 23 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases using the Altitude Black Mastercard – joined by 40,000 bonus Altitude points (20,000 Velocity points) after spending a separate $3,000 on the American Express card within the same period.

5. AMEX Velocity Platinum Card, NAB Rewards Visa Signature credit cards

Rounding out this month’s deals: offers of 50,000 bonus Velocity points on the American Express Velocity Platinum Card and the NAB Rewards Visa Signature credit card.

From American Express, new customers can apply, pay a $375 annual fee and spend $3,000 on purchases within the first three months (also giving you 1.5 Velocity points per $1 spent). As an ongoing offer, if you happen to spend $50,000 or more per year on purchases using the card, you'll get 100 bonus Velocity status credits too.

Otherwise, you could earn 100,000 bonus NAB Rewards points – on-par with 50,000 Velocity points following a 2:1 conversion – when applying for the bank's Visa Signature credit card by June 17 2018, paying a $295 annual fee and spending at least $4,000 on everyday purchases within 60 days of account opening.
