Emirates upgrades spirits menu for first class, business class

Emirates is adding a selection of new spirits and liqueurs to its inflight drinks menu for first class and business class travellers, along with shaking up the cocktail menu by adding the Negroni, Old Fashioned and Aperol Spritz.

Headlining the tipples will be Hennessy Paradis Impérial, which the airline says will be available in first class "for a limited period on select routes" – specifically from September, and on most of the airline's major routes to the Americas, the UK and Asia, although Australia doesn't make the cut.

although Emirates hasn't shared what that 'limited period' is or what routes will see this exceptional drop, so we'll update this article when Emirates gets back to us.

Other brands served in first class include tje popular Hennessy XO; Tesseron Lot 29 XO Cognac and Dalmore King Alexander III, the only single malt Scotch whisky in the world created using a unique six-cask finish; 21-year old Chivas Royal Salute whisky; Belvedere vodka; and Ron Zacapa Centenario XO rum.

In business class and at the Emirates Airbus A380 bar, travellers can enjoy the richly layered goodness of Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 year old single malt Scotch whisky; Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select small batch premium bourbon; and craft gin Sipsmith, which Emirates claims to be the most-request spirit in business class.

There are also some regional plays such as Nanbu Bijin Tokubetsu Junmai suka, served in first class and business class on flights between Dubai and Japan

The airline says an "in-house team of experts spent two years curating the offering" – now that's a nice job, if you can get it!

"We’ve invested time in building relationships with the best spirits makers in the world, understanding global trends and achieving the perfect serve on board to showcase these beverages in the best possible way,” explains Joost Heymeijer, Emirates' Senior Vice President for Inflight Catering.

I love a good Negroni. In fact, it's the standard benchmark by which I judge the merit of a cocktail bar or bartender. Keen to see how the Emirates version stacks up!

Nice, Virgin Australia needs to learn from this. The spirits in the bar to LAX are bottom shelf!

Flying with them in Business this week HKG - DBX - GRU. I only drink Red Wine so I hope they are improving on there selection. A Brunello del Montelchino (Italian) would be nice.
