Can I access the BA lounge with my wife and 2 young kids 9 and6) in London, I am a qantas platinum?

Hi

Will ba let my kids into the lounge as qantas does. Only I have status ( Oneworld emerald). Even if the textbook answer is no is there any wiggle room?

Worth a question given you are platinum.

I am assuming that you’re not flying on a ticket that would grant access to the lounge and are relying solely on your OW emerald status? Technically it’s one guest. I think it’s once Children get older than 2 that they count as a guest. I’ve never had an issue with one additional child. I suspect it’s likely to depend entirely on how generous the lounge staff are, combined with how busy the lounge is. Good luck!

It's Qantas alone that are extraordinarily generous with their allowance of your children into their lounges. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It’s purely at the discretion of the person on the desk at the lounge entrance. BA are very strict about the 1 guest only rule and kids over 2 are counted as a guest - no family allowance like Qantas. I have been fortunate to get wife, 6 mth old and 2.5yr old into the First Lounge as a Platinum whilst flying business but was told that it was due to the lounge being quiet and her awareness of the Qantas family allowance (ie she bent the rules) but not to assume it was the norm.

No. They are strict on the guest policy of one, and kids count as a guest. So, only you and one other.

Just as an addition to my comment above. You haven’t actually said which airport or terminal in London you mean (BA fly from LGW, LCY and STN as well as T5 and T3 at LHR). I assumed you meant T5 from LHR, which is their main terminal at LHR. If you are flying from T3 you would potentially have access to the Qantas lounge located there.

T5 lhr to bru in economy. Jan 2 at 20:10 so likely to be quiet? I’ll chance my arm and see. Try f or j lounge ?

Well in theory you could access either the First or Club (business) lounges with a OW emerald status. There are 4 lounges at T5 to pick from (albeit one is at the satellite, so depends which gate you're out from). I've always found the first class lounge to be relatively good in terms of space (given that first class passengers can use the Concorde Room and therefore it's essentially only those with Emerald Status who can access it). See how you go there, if they say no you can always ask them if its possible they'd let you in to the Club lounge.

I have had mixed results here. Managed to get wife and 2 and 3 year old in on QF Gold flying in economy, but then some years later as QF platinum with kids 6 and 5 we were declined due to the one guest rule. Qantas are definitely the most generous with their family allowance. It doesn't hurt to ask though. If the lounge is quiet there may be some leniency. Fingers crossed.

Probably depends on the age of the kids. Very young and I think most gatekeepers bend the rules. Older and unlikely
