Qantas A380 refurb schedule

We all know that Qantas is kicking off its A380 refurbishment with the first upgraded A380 to fly in September, see https://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-a380-refurbishment.

For those interested, the 'running order' will see VH-OQK as the first A380 headed for refurb at the start of July, so it might even be in the air by late August. VH-OQA is the last of the 12 A380s for refurb and is scheduled for November 2020.

Am flying PE MEL-SIN mid October this year. Just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get the refurbed plane with the new awful PE seats. Thankfully the remainder of my journey to Europe is on Singapore in PE and home on Qatar in Business. Haven't flown on Qantas for donkey's years and not really looking forward to it. Had choose it this time to use up my $450 Amex credit.

Thankfully the remainder of my journey to Europe is on Singapore in PE and home on Qatar in Business. Haven't flown on Qantas for donkey's years and not really looking forward to it. Had choose it this time to use up my $450 Amex credit.

What's wrong with the new seats? The only criticism I've heard is that they're squashed together although I suspect this will be dependent on the specific aircraft and, considering how much criticism QF have received, they'll probably spread them out a little.

Qantas doesn't fly at all between Melbourne and Dallas.

There's nothing much wrong with the new Qantas premium economy seats, apart from that oddball 'cradle' arrangement for the legrest and footrest. The problem, and this has been identified by AusBT and pretty much every Boeing 787 passenger, is that the seats are too close together, which means really cramped conditions without a lot of legroom. It's especially noticeable around the knees actually. Qantas hasn't released details of the A380's premium economy seat pitch but they have said the A380 would have the same premium economy seat pitch as the Boeing 787, and that's the real concern. If they give these seats an extra couple of inches then I reckon you'd find the seats are very good expect for that cradle legrest.

The seats being too close together is not an issue you should be experiencing when flying Premium Economy. The seat itself may be great, but that doesn't mean much if passengers are lacking sufficient room to effectively experience it... shame Qantas hasn't listened (at least as far as we know).

we are flying Singapore to London in October on an A380 and hopefully it's with the new business suite.
we are heading back from our trip on a 787 -9 via LAX which I am really looking forward to. I think Qantas is pretty good.

Qantas have already confirmed the PE seats on A380 won't have more pitch than on the 787.

From personal experience, they don't. Got a points upgrade from Economy aisle to premium economy window. On a long red-eye flight, I had to wake my aisle neighbour twice during the night. Absolutely no way of climbing over. I felt terrible - I envied his ability to sleep - I didn't get a wink. To be frank, I should have saved the points. Economy aisle would have been better.

I was lucky on my most recent trip from LHR to SIN - the lady next to me who had a window seat only needed to get up once. But yeah, absolutely no way to climb over (especially if the seats in front are reclined)

I sometimes use points to upgrade to either PE or Biz and the current PE in my opinion only needed a couple of changes and would have sufficed as a great seat. I haven't tried the new PE yet but reading reviews and unless pitch is increased on the A380, I would most likely avoid them altogether so hoping for a miracle! I sometimes don't think it's worth upgrading on QF using points, especially not on the current Biz class A380 but refurbished birds it would be for sure.
