Last Qantas 747 with F seats being phased out

Love em or hate em, rumour has it that VH OEB (the ex-Asiana 747 that still has the old school interior with F seats in the nose) has disappeared from the QF booking system this April. Another regular 747 (VH OJS) has also gone missing as of February, sparking salacious rumblings of early 787s deliveries!

The six new 787s will be from July. I think that has been mentioned somewhere.

About time, I had OEB last September and that IFE was horrendous. The retirement of this aircraft was well overdue.

In saying that, take off in that old F cabin was special

Was posted on another forum but all the remaining 747s have been put up for sale through end 2020 with the first two expected to be OJS and OEB (related to maintenance as I understand).

Combined with the refurb of 332 EBG will also means the last of the SkyBed I and the Rockwell Collins IFE - and both are definitely a good thing.

Don't think its any earlier 787 deliveries, just that we are over the peak Xmas period.

Qantas is only due to receive 3 787-9's this year with all 3 to be delivered in Q4 this year most likely over a 6 week period in November/December. Line numbers for these aircraft will be LN921, LN929 and LN941

Flew OEB to Santiago in January. Left 4 hours late, because first the Entertainment system wasn’t working (they never got it to work adequately), then one of the galleys wasn’t working. Horrible Business class experience. Said at the time it needed to be put out of its misery, so glad to hear it has.

Boeing are currently building 12 787s/month. That's expected to increase to 14 in April. They are expected to deliver around 160 this year. They've delivered 8 thus far.

The next 3 QF 787s (LN921, 929, 941) are around 100 aircraft away from what is currently in assembly or delivering parts to the factories (currently working on aircraft through LN828).
Assuming they don't skip any, it would seem that the QF aircraft will start having parts arrive at Everett around Aug/Sep and roll out of the hanger from around early Nov.

Still always love the idea of flying on the 747 and sad to see them go. Sitting in the back of F gave an amazing view during taxi and take-off.

And sitting in the front of F you could heard the nose wheel skids bring the spinning wheels to a stop in the wheel well.

The 747’s have past their use by date, and are expensive to operate. While it will be sad to see them go, they need to be replaced by more economically efficient aircraft.

The Queens are aged, and Alan Joyce wants them gone in 2020. Has he not recognised 2021 is the golden anniversary of the first one to go into service for Qantas? No replacement model of plane, no matter what the new technology, will ever last this long, nor will it revolutionise air travel. Retain one 747 finally to fly out of Australia in great style and fanfare in August 2021. Don't let them all just disappear, seeming to slink off to the desert.

Given the current predicament with airframes, slot restraints in places like HND/HNL, ETOPS to JNB/SCL and oil prices that are now just as likely to head South as they are North - I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of the 6 747-400ERs being extended ‘til 2022. Even if it means they get refurbished with new interiors.

One of the reasons I won't fly with Qantas to Japan is because I don't want to get lumbered with an old, noisy dry B747 with no WIFI for the trip. Good Riddance! Lets move on and welcome the 21st Century!

You can bet a very large amount of money on Qantas having a huge event for the final flight of the 747 - they certainly won't be "slinking off" .......
