This is interesting, Australia's International Air Services Commission has received an application from Virgin Australia for a codeshare with Hawaiian Airlines on flights to New Zealand. https://iasc.gov.au/applications/index.aspx#NZ1

How so? It just seems to be Hawaiian codeshareing on VA services.

Does that mean Hawaiian are looking at flying across the ditch?

Most likely permission for HA to put their code on VA's existing Trans-Tasman services.

Makes sense, a lot of US travellers go to Australia and NZ on the same trip. This creates a nice loop for Hawaiian.

If it went ahead I hope it's just the start of a tighter HA/VA partnership. Such as earning points and SC's on all HA flights (not just the VA coded ones) and allowing Platinum and Gold FF's to use a lounge at BNE and expanding the entry to SYD and HNL to those on a HA coded flight.

nix584, you do earn SC's and point on HA flights whether VA or HA flight number. I took family to Oahu and Maui last year on HA flight numbers and got both SC's and point including inter-island flights.
