Qatar Airways flags Boeing 777X for Australia

Amidst chatter swirling around about the fate of the Airbus A380, Qatar Airways' CEO has cited the Boeing 777X as the superjumbo's likely replacement on key routes between Doha and Australia.

That's still aways down the track – the Qatari carrier doesn't expect to start putting its superjumbos out to pasture until late 2024, which marks the 10th anniversary of their delivery – but when that happens "the 777X will replace the A380 on routes, including to Australia” Al Baker says, although he added that an extended-range version of the A350-1000 could also see that Airbus model take over other A380 routes on Qatar's network map.

I’m going to miss the onboard bar space and general spaciousness of the A380. Also interrested how the 777x will be specced out.

Just hope it's a hell of a lot quieter than the current 777.
