First Look: Melbourne Airport gets new iPhone app

By David Flynn     Filed under: iPhone, apps, airports, smartphone apps, Melbourne airport, iPhone apps, airport apps

Melbourne Airport has become Australia's first major airport to release its own iPhone app – it's free, and definitely worth the download.

The app provides real-time flight information - including recent arrivals and departures plus details of delays – drawn from the same data you’d see on the flight information boards.

An itinerary function lets you ‘subscribe’ to a flight to receive specific such as gate details, time until departure and any changes to the schedule.

Maps of the airport and its terminals help you find what’s where and also indicate walking times so you’ll have a good idea of when to stop eating, drinking or shopping and head to your flight. The app also estimates taxi and car park costs.

The app even includes an inbuilt survey, because “it’s crucial that we keep up to date with what our passengers think as they pass through Melbourne Airport” explains Melbourne Airport’s Executive General Manager, Simon Gandy.

Gandy says that “Passengers may even receive a reward for simply completing a short questionnaire and enabling us to better meet their needs in the future.”

The Melbourne Airport iPhone app is a free download from the Apple iTunes store.
