Watch Air New Zealand's 'Men in Black' safety video

Air New Zealand has combined its love of quirky safety videos with the nation's love of rugby union football to create a 'Men in Black' video clip starring members of the country's 'All Blacks' rugby squad.

The airline worked with Sony Pictures on the clip, and while there are no cameos from Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, American actor Rip Torn reprises his role as Chief of the MIB team.

Click below to watch the Men in Black: Safety Defenders video, will be progressively rolled out across Air New Zealand's fleet from today.

The airline's most recent clip was built around a virtual ‘surfing safari' and shot in partnership with GoPro with a number of world surfing champions:

Before that, of course, came a series of famous safety videos inspired by The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit: beginning with An Unexpected Briefing, which has attracted more than 12 million global online views:

This culminated in the aptly-named The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made, which starred Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Dean O’Gorman (Fili the Dwarf) and Sylvester McCoy (Radagast):

There was even a companion 'behind the scenes' video!

Ouch. Until the music started, it seemed okay, if rather time-wasting.

But I just couldn't watch the rest. Rapping with a New Zealand (or Australian) accent is pretty painful at the best of times, but when you pick the guys who are going to do it based on their skill at rugby rather than rapping, you've got something truly painful to the ears.

The only upside is that it reminded me of this Simpsons bit:

Very well done! I think its the best way to grab the passengers' attention as most people never watch these safety videos.

Asian airlines have a lot to catch up in terms of their safety video. Too many fake smiles.

A whole 5 minutes and Richie McCaw didn't cause a penalty. Now that's a record.

I thought it dragged on for sometime.Personally it did not impress me.  I wonder how many frequent flyers  will eventually :"switch off" and not watch it. Also I wonder how many non English speaking background people understand what it is all about???

Could the same not be said for all safety videos and frequent flyers?!?

They have subtitles on board for those that don't speak English.

Having taken 5 domestic/international flights with airnz since last Thursday, when the clip had it's debut, I love it. And the kiwis love it too, with the bledisloe cup win and the World Cup coming up airnz have absolutely nailed this. The NZ public seem to agree too.
