Virgin Australia expects to open its its new international lounge at Brisbane Airport in May 2019.
The new ribbon-cutting will come some six months after the lounge was first and obviously optimistically promised to open in November 2018, a date which was then pushed back to the more nebulous "early 2019".
Virgin Australia today confirmed the revised date to Australian Business Traveller, with outgoing Virgin Australia CEO John Borghetti commenting that "(airport) space is always at a premium."
Dubbed My Lounge and operated by UK-based No1 Lounges – which has also taken over Etihad's Sydney and Melbourne lounges, and opened those to Virgin passengers – it will be located adjacent to Gate 77, towards the end of the terminal's northern concourse.
The lounge will be "specifically designed in the style of a loft apartment"...
... presented as a "relaxed contemporary environment... with seating for more than 100 guests."
Travellers can look forward to a dining area with a 'grazing menu of healthy and indulgent choices'...
... plus barista-pulled coffee and a bar.
There will also be a small working area...
... plus a games room, although it appears this will be more of a nook.
The lounge will be open to Virgin's business class passengers, and Platinum and Gold members of the Velocity Frequent Flyer scheme on Virgin flights to New Zealand, Los Angeles, Bali and the Pacific islands including Fiji.
Paid-up members of the Virgin Australia Lounge program will also be welcome prior to eligible flights.
Until My Lounge opens in May, lounge-worthy Virgin Australia passengers flying from Brisbane are being directed to the Singapore Airlines lounge if they're on VA7 to Los Angeles or a codeshare Singapore Airlines flight; or the Plaza Premium lounge if they're headed to any other Virgin Australia destination.
"In circumstances where we are unable to accommodate lounge eligible guests," the airline says, "they will receive a food and beverage voucher to use at any of the outlets at the Brisbane International Airport."
Elsewhere in the Virgin loungescape, the airline's new lounge at Wellington is expected to be welcoming trans-Tasman travellers from April 2019.
