Alan Joyce has made the comment that (for QF), sales in F from MEL are not strong, whereas they are quite good from SYD. And many of us are well aware that it is easier to get F award/upgrade seats from MEL than from SYD, because of lower demand for paid F seats.

It is a route to an a region traditionally described as "the orient", so "oriental" is appropriate and accurate, if a little old-fashioned.
May 22, 2018, 06.55 PM / Sydney-Hong Kong business class: Cathay Pacific vs Qantas vs Virgin
BA Club World is perfectly fine, and I prefer it to the Qantas Skybeds (though not the new Qantas J suites on the A330 and B787). I've found service in J and F to be on a par with Qantas - but as always, it depends on the actual crew. And I can always find food that I like on BA - something I som...

Yes, storage can be an issue in the old Club World seats, unless you are in one of the window seats with a storage locker on B747 and A380. I much prefer the BA J seats over the Qantas Skybeds. And the food on BA is generally better.

I don't care what they call the various levels, but as someone who has been an SPG (and before that Sheraton Club) Gold for 24 years, I did expect that my benefits wouldn't be downgraded. The 4pm late checkout is the benefit that has always mattered most to me, especially for night flights back t...

I have had J award seats released to HNL (as a Platinum) on several occasions. And on one occasion actually snaffled one that was showing as a U seat online! However, looking for this in a busy school holiday period is difficult. As is seeking multiple seats.Having said that, QF has recently anno...
May 21, 2018, 08.37 PM / SYD-HNL on Qantas, any chance of J award seats as a QFF platinum?
Not in the same lounge. BUT if you were to move from F lounge to another (i.e. from Terminal A to B to C), I think that might be OK.
May 18, 2018, 09.51 PM / Taking turns in Dubai first class lounge
Almost all airlines overbook, and they do it in all classes. Emirates is probably the most notorious here - when I was checking in at DXB, I was told they had overbooked the aircraft by more than 30 people!!It can be a hard spot to be in, but they really should ask ALL the passengers who would li...

If you've been invited, and you log on to the Amex site, then you are asked only a couple of questions, including gross annual income. Upon putting that info in and hitting "submit", you get an immediate answer. This surprised me, as I expected I would get some sort of 'holding' response, saying t...
