From the City, you're better off getting the H&C line to Paddington, then the HEx from there (at least until Crossrail goes from Liverpool St). If you have to start on the Central Line, I'd suggest changing to the Bakerloo at Oxford Circus for Paddington.

It's a cracker. Flew it over & back over Christmas. I usually try to be loyal to Qantas but this is a step change over the Skybed. Unless your Qantas loyalty is a deciding factor, go for it.

JFK terminals are separate buildings; think Heathrow rather than Changi. Most lounges are airside so it'd be difficult (if not impossible) to transfer airside.
