There's a new-look Qantas Chairman’s Lounge on the way...

EXCLUSIVE | The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is getting a fresh look, as shown in these ‘sneak peek’ snaps.

What you’re seeing is bespoke furniture for the all-new invitation-only Chairman’s Lounge which is taking shape at Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal, in the footprint of the old Qantas business class lounge (which has of course expanded into a superb new space).

The photos were shared on social media by Gold Coast fit-out firm Scarchi & Boston, which is crafting furniture for the new-build lounge and also worked on Brisbane’s new Qantas Business lounge.

Slated to open in fourth quarter of this year, the new-look Chairman’s Lounge is clearly moving in a very different direction to the flagship Chairman’s Lounge in Sydney...

… while also a step away from the more colourful vibe of the airline’s Chairman’s Lounge at Melbourne Airport.

The look is lighter, cleaner, and more contemporary, and perhaps less ostensibly ‘look at me’ than the green leather furniture and refined old world gentleman’s club vibe of the ‘classic’ Chairman’s Lounges in Sydney, Canberra and Perth.

It’s not known if this new-look design will find its way to the older Chairman’s Lounges as part of Qantas’ rolling lounge upgrade program, which is expected to see a revamp of the Melbourne business class and Qantas Club lounges for mid-2018 followed by their Sydney counterparts in 2019.

Next on the Qantas lounge roadmap is the split-level London Heathrow lounge, previously due to open by March 2017 but now looking more like an October 2017 ribbon-cutting…

… and the Perth international lounge which will anchor the Australian leg of Qantas’ non-stop Perth-London Boeing 787 flights which take wing in March 2018.

In a first for Qantas, the Perth lounge will include an outdoor terrace with a suitably Aussie-themed BBQ area complemented by a Neil Perry-designed barbecue menu.

"Without leaving the airport we can get a little bit of nature back into our customers," explains designer David Caon, who also worked on the Qantas Dreamliner's seats and cabins, along with the airline's Singapore and Hong Kong lounges.

The colour seems to draw similarities to the new Qantas business suites? I

Wow that green furniture in SYD's CL lounge is nothing short of horrendous.

I agree the green furniture is horrendous. Though I guess the one consolation is that I don't expect I'll ever see it in the flesh.

The photos of the Brisbane Chairman's lounge look a lot better.

In my (limited) experience having been guested into the CL a couple of times, the green looks much, much better in person than it does in photos! Up close, quite nice... in photos, definitely not so much.

A light green colour is a horrible colour to use for furniture imo. If you're going to use green it should be a very dark green (much darker than any of the green in the photo).

The green does not photograph very well at all, but as a frequent user of the SYD CL it actually works very and is tasteful and quite pleasing to the eye.

Anyone else think the new black and tan CL looks a bit Ikea? Looks like a cheap office fit-out, imo. Underwhelmed.

Qantas - what are you thinking! The new scheme for Brisbane is nothing more than an extension to the new J suites being installing across the fleet, the Sydney lounge is a flash back to the 70's with all that is missing is the tangerine, and the Melbourne lounge looks like a kids play area. Qantas, you are servicing executives and VIP's in the Chairman's Lounges, not lost souls. You are losing market share and this is the best you can do.Time to mature up for goodness sakes.

Sydney CM lounge looks exactly like vomit emoji! For cheese and rice get an interior designer to fit out the place!
