The Boeing 777X is now a globe-striding ultra-long range private jet

The Boeing 777x has yet to make its first flight but already this next-generation jet is being spec'd out for a limited edition VIP ride.

Billed as the ultimate private jet, the Boeing Business Jet BBJ 777X will be capable of flying half-way around the world, between virtually any two cities – and, it should go without saying, doing it in style.

“Our most exclusive customers want to travel with the best space and comfort and fly directly to their destination," said Greg Laxton, head of Boeing Business Jets, at this week's Middle East Business Aviation Association Show. "The new BBJ 777X will be able to do this like no other airplane before it, redefining ultra-long range VIP travel."

These Boeing 777X interior concepts from private jet design firms tantalise possibilities such as oversized lounges with a richly classic look...

... or a chic modern vibe...

... a dining room which looks more like the chi-chi private room at your favourite restaurant...

... and even a luxury lav with a spacious shower and his and hers vanity basins.

Boeing will tempt the VIP jetset with two versions of the BBJ 777X. First out of the hanger will be the BBJ 777-9, capable of soaring for some 20,730km, while the BBJ 777-8 will extend this to 21, 570km.

The Boeing 777X is of course also being considered by Qantas for its ultra-long range Project Sunrise flights, which will map out a non-stop marathon from Sydney and Melbourne to the likes of London and New York from 2022.

    The 777 will always be a loud, poor atmospherics and over crowded in any class aircraft....'pack em in tight Boeing'. Unless the engineers have adopted a little bit of Airbus passenger friendly philosophy I hope to God Qantas goes for the A350 which is far superior for the passenger. The 777 should stick to cargo.

    I assume they will be able to sort out the noise and atmospherics in the new model. What worries me is the cross-section is unchanged - barely-but-not-quite wide enough to squeeze in 10 abreast in Economy so everyone who orders it will do that. So in that regard yes the A350 should offer much better comfort in Y (in Y+, biz and first there may not be a noticeable difference).

    Joe, Airlines specify how many seats they want and what interior they want. Additional cabin wall sound proofing is available if they want to pay for it and carry the extra weight around on every flight.

    I have been advised by a credible source that chartering a plane from a major airline like Qantas, will not generate any flight points or status scores. So if one were to indulge in a charter of the proposed B 777x, having won this week’s Powerball, you will not have to worry about claiming the respective points. Shame?!
