Take a sneak peek inside Melbourne's Hyatt Centric, opening 2021

It seems like all the hotel action is happening in Melbourne, with Australia's second Hyatt Centric property slated to open in 2021.

Located at the corner of Downie St and Flinders Lane, the Hyatt Centric Melbourne will be strategically close to Southern Cross Station as well as the Docklands and Southbank precincts, as well as the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Center.

Designed by Architectus and Hecker Guthrie Interiors, the Hyatt Centric Melbourne will feature 278 contemporary guest rooms designed along lines "that showcase the city’s heritage and urban landscape."

These concept images indicate the Hyatt Centric Melbourne will look decidedly upscale, but do so using clean uncomplicated lines and a soft colour palette.

"Melbourne’s cosmopolitan vibe makes it an ideal destination for a Hyatt Centric hotel," says David Udell, Asia Pacific Group President of Hyatt Hotels.

The building’s exterior will feature a six-level podium, backed by a 20-storey glass tower.

The Hyatt Centric Melbourne will tick all the boxes with a pool, gym and steam room, a restaurant serving locally-inspired fare and a rooftop bar offering views over the Yarra River and Southbank.

Launched in January 2015, the Hyatt Centric brand is pitched as "a full-service lifestyle hotel" for business and leisure travellers seeking "a cosmopolitan vibe in the centre of the action".

The concept design looks like overkill with timber. A good material but too much can overstep the mark. Just a bit "heavy."
