Supercharge your status with Qantas' 2019 double status credits promo

Supercharge your status with Qantas' 2019 double status credits promo

The first Qantas 'double status credits' promotion of 2019 has landed, which means your status is set to take off – whether you're looking to lock away Gold, Platinum or even Platinum One for the coming year.

The promotion runs from Monday 18 February through to Monday 25 February, and covers travel between Monday 25 February and Saturday 31 August, inclusive.

So if you're about to book a domestic or international Qantas flight, hold fire until you register for this double status credits deal – and if you've got some not-quite-fleshed out plans for business travel in the months ahead, make some time to firm them up so you can take advantage of the promotion.

For example, flying from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane to Singapore or Hong Kong on a return business class ticket can scoop up at least 480 status credits when booked under this promo.

That business trip to Los Angeles will net you between 720 and 760 status credits, based on your fare type – enough to catapult your way straight to Qantas Gold status from a standing start.

Bound for London? This double serve of status credits will deliver 1200 status credits on a business class return fare, bringing you within coo-ee of Platinum on its own.

The Qantas double status credits offer is the fast way to unlock useful perks such as lounge access, a higher checked luggage allowance, priority check-in and boarding, bonus Qantas points every time you fly, a better chance of scoring upgrades and plenty more besides. Here's what you need to know.

You need to register: before you do anything else, you have to head to the Qantas Double Status Credits promotion web page and click the Register Now button at the foot of the page to ensure that your Qantas Frequent Flyer number is flagged for earning that double status serve.

Domestic and international Qantas flights qualify for double status credits: of course, it's those long overseas trips which turbocharge your ascent up the status ladder. But every flight counts – even those Sydney-Melbourne hops will nudge you forward at least 40 status credits each time.

Only Qantas-operated flights with a QF flight number are valid: you'll earn that double helping of status credits only on a Qantas jet carrying a QF flight number (both domestic and international flights are allowed). This includes QantasLink, but not Jetstar – and it also rules out partners such as Emirates and Air France/KLM, even if your booking is made under a codeshare QF number because the flight itself is not operated by Qantas.

Book your Qantas flights by 11.59pm AEDT, Monday 25 February: this is the cut-off for this week's double status credits offer. The clock's ticking, so sit down and plan ahead. Read our guide to making the most of a Qantas 'double status credits' promotion for some expert advice on mapping out your strategy, which starts with setting your status goals.

Travel dates stretch from Monday 25 February through to Saturday 31 August: that's almost six months' worth of flying, making this a great time to look ahead and book business trips (and holidays). It's especially useful for trips which are based around fixed events such as conferences and expos, along with any quarterly visits to clients and overseas offices. Oh, and you don't have to book directly with Qantas – bookings made through travel agents and other online agents will also earn double status credits.

No loyalty bonus: the bonus status credits earned from this promotion don't count towards the Loyalty Bonus awarded at every 500 status credits, nor will they trigger the Platinum Bonus Reward at 2,400 status credits or the Platinum One Bonus Rewards if you manage to hit 5,000 or 7,000 status credits. The standard status credits haul of your flights will count towards those, but not the 100% extra status credits earned during this promotion.

No status challenge shortcut: the terms & conditions also declare that bonus status credits won't count towards  "Status Accelerator/Challenge earn requirements". This is a reference to the otherwise little-talked-about Qantas Tier Accelerator, which sets the status match bar to a very low 200 status credits for Gold and 400 status credits for Platinum.

Disappointing that the flying window doesn't stretch out for nearly a year but instead under 6 months, but still a nice offer.

Will probably register later today then maybe book flights from tomorrow.

QF's computer uses GMT despite what the promo T&Cs suggest so past experience would suggest it's best to wait till after midnight GMT to start booking to try to avoid having to call up to get DSCs credited manually.

Yes, it can be a good idea to hold off until midnight GMT or you might have a few issues trying to claim the double status credits. Midnight GMT is 11am EST, so not long to go now.

Re 6 months, remember that Qantas had a DSC promo late last year, you can only hope there will be another promo towards the end of 2019.. Also re bookings make sure you register and receive the confirmation email to be sure of eligibility

Bit new to all of this Double Status Credit business... I’ve got a booking made last week, that hasn’t been paid for yet. It’s been made through a travel agent. If I pay for it this week does it “count” for the double SC promo? Or does the booking need to be “started” during the promo period? I hope that makes sense...

SimonFrost, the booking needs to have been created during the DSC promotional period, so your existing booking will not earn double status credits if you pay it this week. Best approach would be to have your travel agent cancel the existing booking and create a new one, hopefully the fares will be the same.

Thanks! Rereading the article, my trip’s booked as a QF code share on EK metal (travelling with others so this is the flight I must take). Will need to stick with what I’ve got I think...

Clicking on the link in your article finds the QF double status promotion OK. However if you go to Qantas web site (without clicking on your link) this page can't be found under FF Member Specials. Perhaps Qantas haven't advertised this promotion yet?

I'm sure the DSC promotion will appear on the Qantas home page later today, if it's not already done so.

Hi Everyone, if a booking is made under the DSC promotion and one of the flight dates are then changed to another date, would I still be entitled to the Double status credits?

Past experience would suggest that so long as the PNR (booking reference) stays the same and the new flight is within the flying period then yes.

Qantas have worked out a good way of 'enhancing' double SC offers -- narrowing the promotion period (even if there will be another double SC offer later in the year).

Say I need to book a flight that departs in July and returns in September. I will only get double SC for the outward flight.

It also means you have to take a big risk with flights outside the promotion period.

Say I know I need to fly in September. Under the equivalent promotion last year, I would have been able to book that flight now with guaranteed double SC.

This year I have to hold out the hope for another double SC later in the year, but the risk is that work/personal circumstances will force me to book it before that second double SC offer or, if I do hold out, all the good flights will be gone.

With respect, these promotions are exactly that: promotions. They are not an entitlement and are entirely at Qantas' discretion.

I'm thankful that they are offered at all because it makes retaining status very easy.

So while the terms are a little different to last year, there's no basis to be complaining about it.

With respect, one could say that about almost any aspect of what Qantas offers to customers (eg the quality of seat offered in flight, the level of amenity provided in the lounge, the wait times for the call centre).

I'm simply pointing out that it is an inferior offering to previous years. It is important to note overall trends in the quality of service offered to determine if that service continues to be worth the outlay.

I actually find this round of DSC offer to be more beneficial. This is just my personal experience.
In the past, when these were released in early February, I have few travel plans confirmed with clients while waiting for people coming back from summer breaks. With the extra time, I have been able to confirm probably double the amount of travel plans. The six month period also reflects my travel planning. I can only usually confirm travel dates at a maximum of 4 - 5 months out, therefore the 12 months never provided any personal benefit.
It will be a busy Wednesday afternoon of bookings :)

This is probably a silly question but I have a flight voucher from a previous cancelled flight (flex fare), when using the voucher to book a new flight meeting all other double SC guidelines, will I still earn double SC's?

In the past they always have counted to lifetime status. If QF decides to ‘enhance’ that in a future promo I’d expect that to be mentioned in the T&C’s.

    Correct, jrfsp.

All the international Y 'Sale' fares evaporated Jan 31 when they were re-priced at significantly higher rates. I left some examples in the thread discussing / asking when the next QF DSC offer would be made a couple of weeks ago. And my prediction on when the DSC offer would occur was marked down too ~ despite being pretty well 'on the money' … :-)

I plan to book travel under this promotion for mid-April that would easily tip me into the next status tier. However, my anniversary period is at the end of April. Given that the promotional T&Cs says that promotional status credits will be credited within six weeks, is it possible that the normal status credits might be credited this annual period, and the additional promotional status credits the next annual period, thus depriving me of the status bump that would have happened if all the status credits were credited at once?

Hi alanw, status credits are always backdated to when they were originally earned, so in your case, you should get the status bump once the bonus SCs are credited.

Interesting - this thread prompted me to check pricing for a SYD_SFO_SYD trip for 2 in J in April. I booked last August under a DSC promotion and glad I did. Current pricing is 50% higher than August last year and no SFO_SYD direct seats available. As always - there is a trade off between status credits and pricing, but this shows time is also a big factor.

Strange. My original offer was only until Feb 22nd. Just got the email of it being 'extended' to the 25th only to discover that it was listed here until the 25th since the start of the offer!

Schucks, they missed me :-) ...or wanted to rush me :-(

Not sure if anyone else has encountered the same problem as me...

Got the email promoting DSC, clicked the link in the email to register and got confirmation on the website saying it was successful (I didn't get email confirmation) and proceeded to book my work trips... oversight on my part :/

Called QFF as others mentioned here they got email confirmation to be told that it didn't show up in their system as saying I'm registered for DSC. Re-did it (but this time got email confirmation) and called QFF back and still doesn't show I'm registered in their system.

Been advised to keep screenshot and email copies of it all (which I've done) in case I need my DSC to be manually credited later. I wonder if the "extension" came about because of some issue with their system?
