Step inside the new Swiss business class and Senator lounges at Geneva

Swiss has rolled out the 'welcome back' mat at its Geneva lounges, with both the Business and Senator lounges open once again after many months of refurbishment.

The new lounges sport a fresh new look, although it's also a familiar one – any business traveller who has visited the lounges as Swiss' Zurich hub will feel right at home with the warm tones and timeless ‘living room ambience’.

This includes bright oiled-Swiss-oak parquet floors, elegant furniture from top Swiss designers such as Vitra and deSede, and feature walls made of limestone from the hilly Jura region in the northwest of Switzerland. (Travel trivia: it's from the densely-packed strata of the Jura Alps that the word 'Jurassic' is derived.)

While the Star Alliance member was revamping its Geneva Business and Senator lounges, Swiss also reconfigured them to make more space available – a welcome move when so many business travellers favour a carry-on-only baggage philosophy.

The ‘zonal’ floorplan also creates spaces to suit each passenger’s needs, from open social spaces to cosy private niches and workstations.

The Swiss Business lounge at Geneva (shown below) caters for passengers in business class on Swiss and its partner Lufthansa Group airlines – even if that's 'Euro-business' class – plus Miles & More members holding Frequent Traveller status.

The more upmarket Swiss Senator lounge at Geneva is reserved for high-flying Senator and HON Circle members of the Miles & More frequent flyer scheme and their Star Alliance Gold equivalents.

Swiss is also gearing up for its all-new Boeing 777 business class seat, which will debut in late 2019 on the Boeing 777-9 jets of German sibling Lufthansa (below) and eventually be added to the Swiss fleet as part of a standardisation scheme which will also include Austrian Airlines.

These lounges are a joke IMHO. Food selection poor. Toilets outside the lounge and showers cost CHF 15 to use. I skied on Sunday - opening day of the season - and thought "great Swiss Lounge Sunday night, shower, something nice to eat and arrive at Heathrow feeling fresh." No such luck. Massive disappointment.

You’re not far off, but the BA lounge is significantly worse. Unfortunately it’s GVA airport which prevents them from putting bathrooms and showers inside the lounges. The food however.......
