It's not the most salubrious end of the city for a high-end brand like St Regis. It is handy to the convention centre and casino but the other end of town like where the Shangri-La is going is definitely the more upmarket spot.

Having said that, this site is an improvement on the location of the new Ritz-Carlton which doesnlt even have proximity to river and convention centre in its favour.

I agree, though the Mandarin Oriental won't be too far from the St. Regis either, even the new W is located in a part of Collins St that is not too lively.

The site of the Ritz Carlton is quite odd, though conveniently right opposite Southern Cross.

But its good to see Melbourne finally attracting all these luxury hotel brands. I would have never thought St Regis or Ritz Carlton would bat an eye on Melbourne a few years ago. They seem to be coming in droves.

It's definitely nowhere near the Paris end of Collins!

you would think it would occupy the upper floors to get the views not the lower floors as it will be

In a mixed-use development it is very common to place the hotel on the lower floors with the residences above. The latter can command a much higher price premium.

Get a high floor room at the new Ritz Carlton you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the remand yard brawls. Should go nicely with evening drinks in the lounge
