Singapore Airlines launches Book the Cook on Perth flights

Business class passengers aboard Singapore Airlines' Perth-Singapore flights will soon be able to pre-order their inflight meals via the airline's Book the Cook service.

Rather than getting 'first dibs' at the regular inflight menu, travellers will be able to choose from a wider variety of dishes which aren't normally offered – up to 15 options per flight, exclusively available to passengers who pre-order online up to 24 hours before travel.

Some of the online-only options include Lobster Thermidor with béchamel sauce...

... dukkah-encrusted, pan-seared Tasmanian Salmon with white wine sauce...

... roast lamb with fine herb crust...

... supreme roasted chicken stuffed with macadamia and flavoured thyme jus...

... and wonton noodles in a savoury broth with BBQ pork, prawn dumplings, and Asian vegetables:

Don't fret if you can't handle chopsticks, either: the crew will happily supply a knife and fork for your wonton noodles:

“Our Book the Cook service has proven to be extremely popular with our customers,” says Singapore Airlines' Area Manager Western Australia, David Pinches. “With 15 delicious dishes to choose from I am sure there will be a dish to satisfy everyone.”

Online ordering will become available from Monday September 25 via the airline's 'manage my booking' portal, for travel from October 1 2017, on all of Singapore Airlines' four daily flights from Perth.

Singapore Airlines currently offers Book the Cook for Suites Class, first class, business class and premium economy passengers on flights departing Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, on most flights from Singapore – including those to Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide – and from a host of other destinations, including London.

Haven't QF been doing this for years in all classes.  I presume you mean SQ have broadened the (extra) options from one or so, to many.

Patrick: Qantas (QF) has its own 'Select on Q Eat' system which sometimes offers the choice of one extra dish when pre-ordering online on selected international flights departing Australia, and isn't something covered by this article.

Singapore Airlines' Book the Cook system offers a much broader menu - out of Perth, you'll be able to select from 15 dishes rather than the usual 2-3 on the normal inflight menu. Currently, the only pre-ordering offered by SQ in Perth is for special meals such as vegetarian, not for pre-selection of the standard main courses.

About time! Now a lobster and champagne for Per to Sin, then steak and red for the flights to Europe.

Indeed this may prompt QF to extend the choice from one or two extra choices to a few more, but I expect not in economy. Twill be interesting to see how SQ manages the logistics (time management)?of the galley and the amount of tailored preparation required for each choice.

We have used Book The Cook many times and have had no problems with the quality of the food. This is a great service.

Use BTC all the time, never an issue. Crew have it entirely under control.

If you pre order the meal, do they still serve you with entree, dessert and etc? I pre booked the Lobster Thermidor on Suites from MEL-SIN once. However, I received only that dish, nothing else.

You normally receive the full service (the pre-order is just the main course), but you may just need to ask for it, or when they stop by to check your pre-order, just remind that you'll have your preferred dish as your 'main'.

Akumewa you may have been on the overnight "supper service" flight where the meal service only really consists of a main - the regular meal service is much more extensive including caviar, soup etc regardless of whether your main is Book the Cook or something from the onboard menu. BTW dear SQ: your "supper service" really sucks for people who would prefer / were expecting a full meal, especially in F.... rant over. First world problems. But it does.

Just to echo the comments above - Book the Cook is fantastic. Especially ex SIN - amazing choice of dishes (something like 60 options). I also really like that you can also see what is going to be on the inflight menu as well when ordering - so you can decide whether to BTC or not.

Thanks everyone. Yes Zac, there was Supper service on this flight but I thought that was an option and I didn't choose to have the supper service. Funny though when I found out C class served more foods than Suites and when I asked the stewardess whether any more foods coming? The answer was nothing else until next day morning :) Will try to avoid supper service next time

BTC is absolutely fantastic, I use it all the time to order plain old steak and 3 veg!! If you're not as entirely boring as me you can order an entire range of "off inflight menu" options which I'm sure are great. You can't compare Qantas' version of online meal ordering which next to BTC scores a below average/fail IMHO, it's actually a bit useless.
