Score status sooner with this hot Qantas double status credits deal

Qantas has launched another double status credits promotion, which means that savvy travellers who move fast can gain a valuable status shortcut to Platinum or Gold, or lock in their frequent flyer status for another year.

The promotion runs from  October 11 through to October 16 2018, and covers travel between October 23 2018 and June 30 2019.

So if you're about to book a domestic or international Qantas flight, hold fire until you register for this double status credits deal – and if you've got some not-quite-fleshed out plans for business travel in the months ahead, make some time to firm them up so you can take advantage of the promotion.

It's worth doing, because a double status credits offer is the fast way to unlock useful perks such as lounge access, a higher checked luggage allowance, priority check-in and boarding, bonus Qantas points every time you fly, a better chance of scoring upgrades and plenty more besides. Here's what you need to know.

You need to register: before you do anything else, you have to head to the Qantas Double Status Credits promotion web page and click the Register Now button at the foot of the page to ensure that your Qantas Frequent Flyer number is flagged for earning that double status serve.

Domestic and international Qantas flights qualify for double status credits: of course, it's those long overseas trips which turbocharge your ascent up the status ladder. But every flight counts, even those Sydney-Melbourne hops will nudge you forward at least 40 status credits each time.

Only Qantas-operated flights with a QF flight number are valid: you'll earn that double helping of status credits only on a Qantas jet carrying a QF flight number (both domestic and international flights are allowed). This includes QantasLink, but not Jetstar – and it rules out partners such as Emirates, Air France and from November KLM, even if your booking is made under a QF number, because the flight itself is not operated by Qantas.

Book your Qantas flights by 11.59pm EST, Tuesday October 16, 2018: this is the cut-off for this week's double status credits offer. The clock's ticking, so sit down and plan ahead. Read our guide to making the most of a Qantas 'double status credits' promotion for some expert advice on mapping out your strategy, which starts with setting your status goals.

Travel dates stretch from October 23, 2018 through to June 30, 2019: that's almost eight months' worth of flying, making this a great time to look ahead and book business trips (and holidays). It's especially useful for trips which are based around fixed events such as conferences and expos, along with any quarterly visits to clients and overseas offices. Oh, and you don't have to book directly with Qantas – bookings made through travel agents and other online agents will also earn double status credits.

No loyalty bonus: the bonus status credits earned from this promotion don't count towards the Loyalty Bonus awarded at every 500 status credits, nor will they trigger the Platinum Bonus Reward at 2,400 status credits or the Platinum One Bonus Rewards if you manage to hit 5,000 or 7,000 status credits. The standard status credits haul of your flights will count towards those, but not the 100% extra status credits earned during this promotion.

No status challenge shortcut: the terms & conditions also declare that bonus status credits won't count towards  "Status Accelerator/Challenge earn requirements". This is a reference to the otherwise little-talked-about Qantas Tier Accelerator, which sets the status match bar to a very low 200 status credits for Gold and 400 status credits for Platinum.

Wow, two in one year. They must feel there is still space in their lounges to occupy.

I'm guessing it's all to do with balancing the books and ROI - with so many new Dreamliners in the fleet, what better way to justify these purchases and future ones (Project Sunrise) - if you're pocketing cash now from selling tickets 16-2 months in advance that's going to look good on any P/L presentation. Still in saying that, I've registered in case I can squeeze in any more travel in over the next 6 months...

This appears to be a targeted promotion - a work colleague got the email from QF, but I haven't seen it yet.

I didn't get the email either (which is odd - I normally do), however head on over to the qantas.com page and its right there on the homepage for you to register. You will also get an email confirmation.

Platinum QFF. Only bought a ticket yesterday to Singapore, do you have any chance of them honouring a double status offer?

You'll need to cancel your booking and make another one if you want to qualify for the DSC promotion. Of course that relies on you valuing those double SCs more than the cancellation fee of your current ticket.

Have they ever done 3 in a year? I'm cynically wondering if they are about to devalue status credits

But why, some services have already had their status credits cut by Qantas. I have found a number where the status credit earnings have dropped. Some of the services are BNE to CBR, BNE to TSV to name two.

That’s a good point, I do TSV-BNE 30-40 times a year but even with the odd double SC promo that I can take advantage of I am still well behind where I was a few years ago before they dropped the SC earn rate.

Guys, I was hoping for some help with a status run. I am looking to got to the Philippines next year (was thinking between March and May), was wondering if you could assist me in getting a good run between Sydney and Manila. Cheers

Booked MEL-SYD-PEK-SYD-PER for Easter/ANZAC, 720SC for $2308 after AMEX travel credit + ~22k points for the positioning flights ex SYD. Probably not the absolute best deal out there but China just seemed like more of a holiday destination than the usual (boring) AKL/CHC status runs.

Also seems like SYD/PEK on QF 107/108 have finally gone fully flat on the refurb'd 332s, at least both for my Jan trip and the Apr one.

The August 11 2018 Double SCs was available for bookings up to 8 August 2019. This October Double SCs is only available to fly up to 30 June 2019 (end FY). Depending on your anniversary date this could matter. Great that there are so many promotions this year but you have to wonder why.

    :(
I only got my travel during the promo period confirmed a few days after the last one ended. And now all my travel plans are confirmed, paid for and ticketed, so have nothing to book during this promo period either.
