Rydges revamps Priority Guest Rewards with GHA Discovery perks

Members of Rydges’ Priority Guest Rewards will now see their membership recognised at properties across the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), including Parkroyal, Pan Pacific and Marco Polo Hotels.

Although a GHA member, Rydges customers have previously had to choose between either Priority Guest Rewards – limited only to Rydges, QT Hotels, Art Series Hotels and Atura (AHL participating hotels) – or GHA Discovery, valid across the alliance’s global network.

That’s all changed, with Priority Guest Rewards and GHA Discovery combining all benefits onto a single card and membership for worldwide recognition.

Now with access to around 500 hotels in 76 countries, Priority Guest members are in for a treat.

Priority Guest Gold

Entry-level perks for Gold members at AHL participating hotels include a 10% discount when booking online, 20% off in-house meals and drinks, a 1pm late check-out and free bottled water or a welcome drink.

Now, that also includes a free local newspaper, bottled water and Internet access across the GHA network, which isn’t to be sniffed at when there’s no sign-up fee or minimum stay requirements.

Members continue to earn points on their stays, with one free night up for grabs after spending 15 nights at participating properties.

Further afield within the GHA family, members instead earn ‘local experiences’ in lieu of points, which can include after-hours access to attractions and museums, meet and greets with local celebrities and backstage passes.

Priority Guest Platinum

After five stays or 10 nights per calendar year at any AHL participating hotel, members move up to the Platinum tier.

Building on the benefits of Gold, Platinum members receive a higher 15% discount on online bookings within the AHL group and earn points at a higher rate – enough for one free night after staying for 10 nights.

That sees members earning their first award when reaching Platinum, which also comes with a 3pm late check-out (subject to availability).

Aligning with GHA Discovery Platinum, travellers also see late check-out privileges extended across the alliance, plus free room upgrades and a welcome gift.

Priority Guest Black

At the top of the pile, 10 hotel stays or 30 nights at AHL participating hotels nets Black status in the program.

That comes with a staggering 50% off in-house meals and drinks, and enough points for a free stay after eight hotel nights, or two free stays after 15 nights.

Late check-outs are pushed back until 6pm wherever possible, which is handy if you’re departing on an evening flight and would prefer to freshen up at the hotel before heading to the airport.

Lining up with GHA Discovery Black, that perk is also extended throughout the GHA network.

Double room upgrades also see members moving to a much nicer room in a hotel. For example, where there are Standard, Deluxe and Executive rooms, Black members could book a Standard room and receive an Executive room at no extra charge.

On top of a welcome amenity, Black members are also guaranteed a room – even in a fully-booked hotel – when booking at least 24 hours in advance.

Earning Priority Guest status

Oddly, Priority Guest members can only earn their status benefits by staying at AHL participating hotels – that’s Rydges, QT Hotels, Art Series Hotels and Atura.

Although travellers enjoy perks at GHA’s other hotels such as Parkroyal or Pan Pacific, they don’t count towards reaching or retaining a Priority Guest membership tier.

That makes the program better-suited to travellers who frequent the AHL brands, but who occasionally stay with other properties in the GHA portfolio.

Road warriors who primarily stay at GHA-brand hotels would be wise to remain in the separate GHA Discovery program, as they’d be unlikely to stay enough at Rydges and AHL hotels to earn GHA-equivalent status.

Either way, GHA Discovery membership – and now Priority Guest membership – covers Anantara, The Doyle Collection, First Hotels, Individual Collection, Kempinski, Leela, Lungarno Collection, Marco Polo Hotels, Mokara, Omni, Pan Pacific, Parkroyal, Rixos, Shaza, Tangram, and Tivoli.

From experience if your travel is booked by a third party agency e.g CWT you do not earn on stays with Priority Guest. A major flaw IMO.

Hi Adrian – that's also the case for HHonors, Accor, IHG and SPG.

See: Want points for your hotel stay? Avoid third-party booking websites

(That's mostly to do with points, but it applies to stay credit as well.)
