Qantas' new Brisbane business class lounge opens March 11

Qantas will open its all-new business class lounge at Brisbane Airport's domestic terminal on Saturday March 11, with passengers also enjoying a new 'premium lounge entry' to fast-track their way to the lounge from a dedicated kerbside drop-off point to the lounge.

[update: Qantas has pushed back the previously-advised opening date of March 10 by one day, but you know this'll be worth the wait.]

The premium pathway includes its own check-in area with baggage drop and security screening, before you step onto an escalator to glide up to the Qantas Business Lounge and the soon-to-be-refreshed Qantas Club.

(There'll eventually be a swish new Chairman's Lounge too, with the exclusive clubroom moving into the footprint of the old Qantas Business Lounge.)

The business lounge will plant its dress-code shoes in an extension to the domestic terminal and has been designed by Woods Baggot, long-time Qantas partner behind the Sydney and Melbourne first class lounges, the Los Angeles business class lounge and most recently the Perth business class lounge (seen in these photos below).

As with Perth, we’re expecting the Brissie lounge to carefully zone its floorplan around different  types of travellers: from solo flyers wanting to work or relax, to couples and larger groups who’ll congregate around tables or bars as social spaces.

Those bars will transition from serving coffee and fresh fruit juice in the morning to beer, wine, spirits and cocktails.

And a la Perth, the Brisbane business lounge will embrace a design concept which draws inspiration from the lounge’s home city to give it a distinctly Queensland feel.

Instead of Perth's dusky mineral-rich reds we're expecting to see a lighter, more tropical palette with an airy 'outdoorsy' vibe, similar to that of Qantas' recently-opened Brisbane International Lounge (below).

With thanks to Qantas, ten readers of Australian Business Traveller will attend an invitation-only cocktail party on the evening of Thursday March 9 to officially open the new Qantas Business Lounge. Visit our our online community for your chance to win one of seven invites, and click through to our Facebook page where we're offering three more spots to the soiree. Conditions apply; entries close Friday February 24, 2017.
