Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold status match for New Zealand travellers

Qantas is aiming to bring more of New Zealand's business travellers under its wing with the rare offer of free Gold status in the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme.

The status match promotion requires only that the traveller holds 'gold or higher status with any airline' other than Qantas partner Emirates, and lives in New Zealand.

New Zealand already has the highest number of Qantas Frequent Flyer members outside of Australia, and while Qantas offer extends to any airline it's also a shot across the bow of Virgin Australia partner Air New Zealand.

The gold status match runs through to 11.59pm (NZ time) on March 9, and includes a full year of Gold status with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

Perks include access to domestic Qantas Club lounges (just make sure you're appropriately dressed) and international Qantas Business Lounges, checkin at the business class desk plus extra checked luggage and priority baggage handling.

How to grab your piece of gold? If you're not already a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, join via this free sign-up page to save yourself NZ$50.

You'll need to upload a photo or scanned JPEG image of your 'Qualifying Status' from another airline's frequent flyer program at and wait 10 days to hear if you've made the grade.

    Not a bad offering for those across the ditch - can't remember the last time Qantas did an official status match promotion.

    Prior to putting in the hardyards, I enquired with Virgin and they weren't the slightest bit interested. With their lofty growth targets, you'd like to think it's on the cards.

    Also following the trend of Qantas and Virgin replicating eachother, perhaps we'll see the turf war move from market share to pilfering one anothers top status frequent fliers??

    Got my confirmation through last night but waiting on my profile to be updated!  Guess they are trying to pull customers from Air NZ and Virgin's business class launch...which they will achieve from me!

    My CX Gold got declined for this match. Is there a number or a specific team that I can get in touch with. I read the fine print and was confident that my status match will be approved. Not sure what happened:(

    Just got matched from Velocity Gold. Applied 24/2 and got matched 10 days later to QF gold.
