Qantas' Brisbane international lounge just got larger

Qantas' Brisbane International Lounge has just gotten bigger, with the opening of a ground floor annexe to boost capacity by some 25% and ease the squeeze during the busiest travel periods.

The new space – previously occupied by Air New Zealand – has seating for 100 passengers and sports its own hot and cold buffet...

... with a bar and barista coffee station (Qantas reportedly goes through 5kg of coffee each day at its Brisbane international lounge).

Its design draws on the same threads as the rest of the lounge: a relaxed 'Queensland living' vibe in its materials, colours and finishes, as well as timber cafe-style seating and low-slung lounges.

However, the ground floor extension will be open only during Qantas' busy morning peak hours from 7:30am to 11am,

"With the majority of our international flights from Brisbane departing in the morning, the expanded space will give our customers a more relaxed lounge experience," says Qantas Group Chief Customer Officer, Vanessa Hudson.

This is good news - it's got increasingly busy in there from around 9-10am, particularly on Sundays. I couldn't get seating for 2 people the last time I was there.

Is this new space interconnected with the upper levels? Or is there a seperate entry?

You go through the same entrance on the departures level, but instead of turning left and taking the escalator up, you walk straight ahead.

My take after experiencing it on Friday morning - more general than the increased space:

    - good service
    - nice space
    - busy but not too crowded

    - hot food options sounds sparse and quality not good

Overall, it’s a lounge. I’ve experienced far worse but also slightly better.

Great news as this lounge despite its recent renovation (and upper level expansion) is just way too congested during the morning period.

Went to their lounge this morning (the lower floor). Hot food choices are very limited (Scrambled/boiled egg, mushroom plus sausages). Floor area is pretty small and their tables and chairs are very close to each other.
