PassWallet: get Apple Passbook mobile boarding passes on Android

With both Qantas and Virgin Australia now supporting Apple's Passbook app for mobile boarding passes, we were intrigued to hear of an app which makes these digital tickets work on Android.

PassWallet is reportedly fully compatible with Apple's Passbook system.

Once you've completed mobile checkin on your Android phone for a domestic flight with Qantas, Virgin Australia or any other airline which has embraced Passbook – a growing list that includes American Airlines and United – the PassWallet app should step in to save the Passbook mobile boarding pass.

The app can also send boarding passes to a DropBox account so they can be used on different devices – for example, if you checked in using an Android tablet but at the airport prefer to rely on your Android smartphone.

PassWallet is available on Google Play store as a free edition with advertisements, or an ad-free version of a mere US$1.29.

We'd love to hear from any Android-toting Aussie readers who can advise how well PassWallet works with Qantas or Virgin Australia flights.

Just reading the feedback and comments. Looks like some teething problems. Give it another 6 months. For $1.29 - I'd get the ads free

The reviews are mixed, quite a lot pro as well as some con. Be interested to see how it works with QF and VA, and hey, it's free so you've got nothing to lose, and if it works you spend $1.29 to ditch the ads. Any AusBT readers used PassWallet?

I have installed passwallet on my android, but how would you get a passport TO it from the qantas end? there's no qantas android app yet, do you do it by checking in online via mobile browser? (but it'd have to be iphone user-agent in browser to be recognised as iphone and thus 'passbook capable', no?).....

    hmm
