New Air France cutlery snaps together like a model plane

Air France has added a whimsical twist to its new in-flight cutlery and tableware, with the kids' plastic cutlery set snapping together like a model plane kit.

The "flying cutlery" set is intended as a bit of a distraction for the young ones, although fortunately they don't actually fly.

We say "fortunately" because the last thing we'd want to see on a crowded plane would be dozens of kids launching sharp-pointed plastic airplanes throught the cabin.

This cute concept and the rest of the collection – which is still a little playful in form and colour, rather than being staid – comes from French designer Eugeni Quitllet, who drew his inspiration from aircraft aerodynamics.

They may not actually fly, but kids won't know that.  It looks exactly like a kit that will fly once put together, and so kids will start trying to fly them.

I am certain the French have already thrown them at each other, and clearly it's been approved by their over-regulation men in orange safety vests.

Are they suppose to play with it before or after the meal service? Both would have an ewww factor.

Manky hands playing with cutlery to be used later for eating, or

Dirty cutlery being flung around and getting stains on seats, armrest, tray table etc.

Someone at AF has not thought this through...

I say this with the utmost respect, but lighten up!

It's a bit of fun and Air France is most likely doing this as this creates free publicity for them and creates brand awareness and the perception they are innovative etc

Are you prepared to pay a premium for a set used with particular meals?
