March's top Virgin Australia Velocity credit card sign-up deals

Does your Velocity Frequent Flyer balance need a little boost before you can unlock your next free flight or upgrade to business class? Then take a look at this month's top credit card offers, which place over three quarters of a million Velocity points on the table for successful applicants.

Right now, a single card application can also deliver as many as 120,000 bonus Velocity points, so here's what's topping the charts this month from American Express, Citibank, NAB and Virgin Money.

1. American Express Platinum business, personal charge cards

Turbocharge your Velocity balance this autumn with 120,000 bonus Velocity points on the American Express Platinum Business Card – or, if you aren't a business owner, 80,000 bonus Velocity points on the personal version of the same card, the American Express Platinum Charge Card.

For the higher bonus, apply for the Platinum Business Card by July 2 2018, spend $5,000 on purchases within the first three months and pay a $1,500 annual fee to receive 120,000 Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points with American Express, which you can convert into Velocity points at a 1:1 rate.

Or, to take home 80,000 bonus points from the personal Platinum Charge Card, simply apply, spend $1,500 on purchases within the first three months and pay an annual fee of $1,200.

That personal card also pulls in up to three Velocity points per dollar spent (such as with most AMEX-accepting restaurants and cafes in Australia), while the Business Platinum Card gives up to two Velocity points per dollar spent, such as on your business' hotel and flight costs.

2. Virgin Money's Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card

With a boosted offer this month, the Velocity High Flyer Visa Signature credit card from Virgin Money dishes out up to 105,000 bonus Velocity points for eligible new customers who apply by April 30 2018 and spend $3,000 per month in each of the first three months.

That gives you 35,000 bonus Velocity points per month, up to 105,000 bonus Velocity points at the end of month three from a total overall spend of at least $9,000, plus $289 to cover the card's annual fee.

You'll also earn one Velocity point per dollar spent on everyday purchases (except payments to government bodies) up to $8,000 per month, and 0.5 Velocity points per $1 spent thereafter, uncapped.

3. AMEX Business Explorer, Citi Prestige Visa Infinite credit cards

Taking out the bronze with offers of 75,000 bonus Velocity points are the American Express Business Explorer and Citi Prestige Visa Infinite credit cards.

The American Express Business Explorer card provides100,000 bonus Membership Rewards Gateway points – equal to 75,000 Velocity points following a 4:3 conversion – when you apply by July 2 2018, spend $3,000 on purchases within the first three months and pay a $395 annual fee. You'll also earn the equivalent of 1.5 Velocity points per $1 spent on most purchases, uncapped.

Citibank's offer promises an impressive-sounding 150,000 Citibank Rewards points, but as Citi applies a less-favourable 2:1 conversion rate on transfers to Velocity, these are again equal to 75,000 Velocity points: yours when you apply by June 30 2018 and spend at least $3,000 on purchases within 90 days of card approval, plus a hefty annual fee of $700.

4. Citi Visa Signature credit card, Virgin Money’s Velocity Flyer Visa

Next in line with helpings of 60,000 bonus Velocity points, the Citibank Citi Visa Signature credit card and Virgin Money’s Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Visa: the basic version of the similar Velocity High Flyer card above.

With Citibank, you'll need to apply by June 30 2018 and spend $3,000 on the card within 90 days of approval to unlock 120,000 Citibank Rewards points, equal to 60,000 Velocity points when converted at a 2:1 rate. An ongoing annual fee of $395 applies (trimmed to $199 in the first year).

The Velocity Flyer Visa instead provides 20,000 bonus Velocity points in each of the first three months when you apply by April 30 2018 and spend at least $1,500 monthly, up to a total of 60,000 bonus Velocity points at the end of the third month, against an affordable annual fee of just $64 in the first year and $129 thereafter.

5. AMEX Velocity Platinum Card, NAB Rewards Visa Signature credit cards

Rounding out the offers this month, bonuses of 50,000 Velocity points via the American Express Velocity Platinum Card and the NAB Rewards Visa Signature credit card.

You'll earn those points direct from AMEX when you apply, pay a $375 annual fee and spend $3,000 on purchases within the first three months. You'll also take home 1.5 Velocity points per $1 spent on most purchases, and if your spending reaches $50,000/year or more on the card, 100 bonus Velocity status credits too.

Otherwise, you can earn 100,000 bonus NAB Rewards points – equal to 50,000 Velocity points following a 2:1 conversion – when applying for the bank's Visa Signature credit card by June 17 2018, paying a $295 annual fee and spending at least $4,000 on everyday purchases within 60 days of account opening.
