LAN and Qantas resume Australia-Chile flights tomorrow

LAN Airlines will restart daily flights between Australia and South America from tomorrow, Friday 8 July, after almost four weeks of disruption due to the ash cloud from Chile's volcano eruption.

The Sydney-Santiago flight LA800 – which is also sold and codeshared by Qantas as QF321, and widely used as a Sydney-Auckland service – will resume tomorrow at 9.25am on Friday.

Passengers seeking more information or wanting to check upcoming flights should visit www.lan.com or call LAN Reservations on 1800 558 129 within Australia, although delays are likely due to the high volume of calls.

For passengers who were booked to travel prior to 8 July, but whose travel plans were affected by the ash cloud disruption, LAN will waive change fees for new reservations made up to and including 31 October.

These aren't new - they started to stop in Papette rather than Auckland on the 18th...

    Someone on a.net posted this:

"LAN will add 6 more flights between SCL and SYD via PPT to clear the backlog of pax affected by recent cancellations:

    LA805 22 June SCL-PPT-SYD 22:50 10:50 +2
    LA805 24 June SCL-PPT-SYD 22:50 10:50 +2
    LA805 26 June SCL-PPT-SYD 22:50 10:50 +2
    LA805 29 June SCL-PPT-SYD 22:50 10:50 +2
    LA805 01 July SCL-PPT-SYD 22:50 10:50 +2
    LA805 03 July SCL-PPT-SYD 22:50 10:50 +2

    LA804 24 June SYD-PPT-SCL 15:20 23:20
    LA804 26 June SYD-PPT-SCL 15:20 23:20
    LA804 28 June SYD-PPT-SCL 15:20 23:20
    LA804 01 July SYD-PPT-SCL 15:20 23:20
    LA804 03 July SYD-PPT-SCL 15:20 23:20
    LA804 05 July SYD-PPT-SCL 15:20 23:20"

Are these flights in addition to the relief flights?

We received the advisory from LAN at 4pm today, where it started: "From now until Monday, 27 June, LAN will suspend flight LA 800, its daily Sydney-Auckland-Santiago service..."

No, only that "Flights beyond these dates (the ones in the article above) will be advised as soon as possible".

I'm waiting for somebody to call #ashcloud an 'enhancement' - "it adds a sorely-lacked dimension of excitement to your travel, and once again makes each journey an adventure in itself!"

haha don't give Alan Joyce any ideas:

"We had such a positive reaction to the ash cloud that we've decided to permanently install one over Australia. Only Jetstar planes can fly through it, so we are therefore shutting down QF mainline ops, for the safety of our passengers of course."

What about those who booked directly with LAN for the SYD-AKL leg of LA800 (rather than as a QF codeshare)?

I'm meant to be taking this flight next week and rang LAN to enquire about what would happen if it was still affected, but the helpful agent refused to talk to me unless my exact flight had been been cancelled. No grasp of discussing something hypothetically.

Hopefully they're bumping their AKL passengers to QF, but then again they are an airline so I wouldn't be too surprised if they left me stranded for a week / have to rebook at my own expense.

Mark, if you want to drop me an email with all the necessary details at john@ausbt.com.au, I can pass it on to our LAN contact. He may be able to talk more in hypotheticals than the people at the call centre.

Hopefully these services are running in August Via Auckland again.

Will LAN rebook SYD-AKL-SYD Pax who are booked in J into Qantas or do we have to cancel and rebook and pay $1800 more ourselves? If booked through LAN Website?

Hi PD69 – we all certainly hope that these ashcloud dramas have long gone by August. As for your own situation, if you have no luck contacting LAN then shoot your emails through to us (John has provided his email in the message above) and we can direct this to 'our man in LAN' for his attention.
