KLM's new business class meals for European Cityhopper flights

Dutch airline KLM is launching a new range of business class meals for flyers darting around Europe on its regional Cityhopper services.

Starting 28 October 2018, travellers in the 'Euro-business class' cabin can look forward to more choice on the menu, including sustainable produce from local suppliers. Meat and eggs will carry Beter Leven (‘better life’) certification, signifying greater care for animal welfare.

KLM's new business class breakfast is served until noon and consists of fresh fruit, cold cuts of meat and cheese, and a hot roll.

In the afternoon, you can look forward to assorted salads and side dishes, including the local favourite of apple pie.

More individual elements will be added to each meal so passengers can customise each dish to their liking. Examples include separating the granola and jam out of yoghurt, as well as dressings and nuts out of the afternoon salads.

Customers on the six longest Cityhopper flights – to Valencia, Porto, Split, Ibiza, Cagliari and Helsinki – will also have the freedom to dine on demand and enjoy a second refreshment of a spinach and feta pastry or a Dutch croquette snack.

And if you look closely, you'll notice KLM's salt & pepper shakers are in the shape of Dutch clogs.

These new meals will be served in a recyclable box designed by Marcel Wanders, who previously reworked the business class tableware for KLM. With the Cityhopper fleet consisting solely of 49 Embraer E-jets, the boxes have been optimised to fit on tray tables better and take up less space overall.

Looks nice and very healthy but I have to say even BA's new club Europe catering is better than that.

Surprised at any positive comments on this to be honest. Any lovely words and glossy photos, and a bit of gold on the box surely can't distract that this is merely a fancy economy meal. No plates or glasses, and all jammed together rather than being served like a proper meal. First world problems sure, but just another dilution of the European business offering.

I think they use boxes because it’s more efficient to work for the two flight attendents. Also serving economy free meals (hot drinks) 100 pax in a 30-60 min flight.
