It may be the beginning of winter, but that's no reason for your frequent flyer points to freeze over: particularly when this month's top Qantas Frequent Flyer credit card sign-up deals have over 1.2 million Qantas Points on the table – up to 120,000 bonus points from a single card application.
As you'd expect, the cards with the highest sign-up bonuses also have some of the best frequent flyer earning rates on everyday purchases as you continue using the card, so you'll be rewarded twice: both at the beginning from applying for the card, and by keeping it in your wallet over a longer period of time.
Here are the offers currently making headlines from American Express, ANZ, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA, Citibank, NAB, Qantas Money, St. George and Westpac.
1. Westpac Altitude Black cards, American Express Platinum Business Card
Holding onto last month's rankings, the Westpac Altitude Black American Express + World Mastercard credit card combo and the American Express Platinum Business Card continue to serve up Australia's highest Qantas Frequent Flyer sign-up bonuses, with each bank offering up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points.
Westpac awards those points in two chunks, beginning with 80,000 bonus Qantas Points when you apply by October 23 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of card approval using the Altitude Black Mastercard (issued and serviced by Westpac).
That's joined by 40,000 bonus Qantas Points when spending a separate $3,000 on eligible purchases within the same 90-day period using the American Express Westpac Altitude Black Card (issued and serviced by American Express), on which you can also earn up to 2.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent.
For entrepreneurs, the American Express Platinum Business Card delivers 120,000 bonus points to new AMEX customers who apply by July 2 2018 and spend at least $5,000 on the card in the first two months, in addition to paying the card's $1500 $1,500 annual fee.
Rather than appearing directly in your Qantas Frequent Flyer account, that bonus is awarded as 120,000 Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points, which can be converted into 120,000 Qantas Points at a 1:1 uncapped rate. Your business can also earn up to two points per $1 spent using the card, such as on travel expenses, business lunches, advertising and computer equipment.
2. AMEX Qantas Business Rewards, NAB Qantas Rewards Signature
In second place but still with six figures of bonus points, the AMEX Qantas Business Rewards Card and the NAB Qantas Rewards Visa Signature credit card are each offering 100,000 Qantas Points.
Applying for the AMEX Qantas Business Rewards card by July 2 2018, spending $3,000 on purchases within the first two months and paying a $450 annual fee with get business owners that cool bonus bounty, while also earning 1.25 Qantas Points per dollar spent on most everyday purchases.
NAB's offer instead runs for those applying until June 17 2018, so you'll need to be quick: spending $4,000 on everyday purchases within 60 days of account opening, and paying a $395 annual fee. Business owners will also find a similar offer available on NAB's comparable Qantas Business Signature Card.
3. St. George Amplify Signature Visa credit card
With a solid earning rate of up to 0.825 Qantas Points per $1 spent paired with a nice serving of 90,000 bonus Qantas Points, St. George's Amplify Signature Visa credit card gives that bonus reward to new customers who apply by September 26 2018, spend $4,000 on purchases within 90 days of card approval and pay a $279 annual fee, with uncapped points earning potential as you continue to spend on the card.
To earn Qantas Points, you'll just need to select 'Amplify Qantas' as your loyalty option, providing 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent up-front. That's then boosted by St. George's 10% ‘birthday bonus’ in the month of your birthday on all the points you’ve earned on the card over the past year (excluding the sign-up bonus), elevating your total points haul to 0.825 Qantas Points per $1.
You'll also find this same offer and points earning rate on the near-identical Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature Visa and the BankSA Amplify Signature Visa credit cards – which, like St. George, are backed by Westpac Group.
4. American Express Platinum Charge Card, Qantas Premier Platinum credit card
Tempting with offers of 80,000 Qantas Points: the iconic American Express Platinum Charge Card, and Qantas Money’s Premier Platinum credit card.
AMEX awards 80,000 bonus Membership Rewards Ascent Premium points (convertible into 80,000 Qantas Points) to eligible new customers who apply, spend $3,000 on the card within the first three months and pay a $1,200 annual fee. Spending on the card also provides up to three points per dollar spent (such as at restaurants).
Qantas Money instead splits your 80,000 bonus points into two chunks, when you apply by June 30 2018 and pay a $299 annual fee, with 40,000 bonus points awarded to new customers who spend $3,500 on the card in the first month, followed by an additional 40,000 bonus points in the second month after spending the same amount.
5. ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa, Westpac Altitude Platinum
Close behind with offers of up to 75,000 bonus Qantas Points: ANZ's Frequent Flyer Black Visa, and the new Westpac Altitude Platinum AMEX + Visa credit card combo.
Apply for ANZ and you'll earn that bonus – plus $200 back on your statement (reducing the $425 annual fee to $225 in the first year) – after your first eligible purchase within the first three months, along with one Qantas Point per $1 spent up to $7,500 per monthly statement period (0.5/$1 thereafter).
Over at Westpac, its Platinum-grade deal mirrors the Altitude Black combo by splitting your bonus points into two chunks: firstly, with 60,000 bonus points for new customers who apply for the Altitude Platinum card combo by October 23 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of card approval using the Altitude Platinum Visa (issued and serviced by Westpac).
Separately, you can also earn 15,000 bonus Qantas Points after spending $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of card approval using the using the AMEX Westpac Altitude Platinum Card (issued and serviced by American Express), for a grand total of up to 75,000 bonus Qantas Points after a total card spend of $6,000.
Normally, you'd also pay $250 in annual fees with these products, but Westpac is currently waiving its $150/year annual fee on the Visa in the first year, and the $50/year annual fee for the AMEX is also waived in the first year, so all you need to pay until year two is the $50/year Qantas Rewards Fee.
Some of the other offers on the table this month include 70,000 bonus Qantas Points with Citibank's Citi Qantas Prestige Visa credit card (after your first spend within 90 days from card approval); 65,000 Qantas Points + $150 back on your statement via the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum Visa (after your first eligible purchase in the first three months), and 60,000 Qantas Points on the St. George Amplify Platinum Visa (spend $3,000 within 90 days of card approval via ‘Amplify Qantas’), among others.
