Australian HSBC credit card customers can now save money on dining, travel, activities and more thanks to complimentary membership in the Frequent Values program run by Entertainment Publications: the company behind the better-known Entertainment Books.
Among the perks are discounts of 20% at thousands of restaurants, savings of up to 50% on activities and hotel stays compared to full-price tickets and rack rates, and discounts of 5-10% on selected airfares with Virgin Australia, Emirates, Hawaiian Airlines and more.
Whether you’re an existing HSBC credit card holder or are considering a switch, here’s how you can make the Frequent Values program work for you.
Frequent Values membership via HSBC: eligible cards
To take advantage of this, you’ll need an HSBC credit card issued in Australia, with that roster including the popular HSBC Platinum Qantas Visa, along with the standard (non-Qantas) HSBC Platinum Visa, HSBC Low Rate Visa and the HSBC Premier World Mastercard.
Existing cardholders should check their inboxes for an email titled “Activate your HSBC Instant Savings membership today”, while newly-minted cardholders should keep their eyes peeled for a similar email after activating their credit card.
This email contains your unique Frequent Values membership number, along with a temporary password that’s needed to switch-on your membership, so don’t lose it!
Don’t delay in activating your Frequent Values membership either, because the temporary password expires three months from the date of the email.
Frequent Values membership via HSBC: activating your account
When prompted to login, select the ‘client code’ option, and then key in ‘Savings’ in the ‘client code’ box, joined by the unique membership number and temporary password found in your HSBC email above:
You’ll be asked to enter an email address and create your own password for your Frequent Values account – and once that’s done, you’re free to explore the app:

Frequent Values membership via HSBC: finding and using offers
This part is relatively straightforward: you can browse for offers by category or location, or can search for the name of a specific business to see if they’re included.
For example, to find a restaurant in the Sydney CBD and surrounds, just click Dining on the main screen, click the location pin at the top of the screen (if that's where you are), and pinch zoom the map to your desired area.
You’ll see a mix of numbers and restaurants on the map. The numbers indicate that multiple offers are available in that area, while a restaurant icon showing solo indicates that it’s the only participating location in that area.
You can click a number to expand the options, or can click directly on a restaurant icon to see the offer, such as we’ve done for Pancakes on the Rocks, where Frequent Values members can receive 20% off their total bill up to a maximum of $25.
When requesting the bill, advise the staff that you’re an Entertainment Frequent Values member, get your smartphone out and click ‘redeem this offer’ on the restaurant’s offer page, shown above.
A confirmation screen appears, and when your waiter is ready to confirm your eligibility for the discount, click ‘redeem now’ and show the next screen to the staff member.
Your discount is then granted at the point of purchase when paying for your meal. It’s not credited later to your card statement as with Visa’s RACQ Dining Rewards program or American Express’ AMEX Offers scheme, so make sure your discount has been applied before you pay, and you’re done!
Continue exploring the app to see the other offers available to you – such as airfare discounts – by returning to the app’s home screen and selecting the appropriate category, such as ‘travel’.
See something you like, such as the 5% discount on Virgin Australia flights? Just click on it, tap ‘view offer’ on the next screen, and you’ll be taken to the right place: in this case, a private booking portal which unlocks those fares:
There’s no limit to the number of different offers you can take advantage of, but do check the Terms and Conditions of each one to ensure there are no restrictions which could work against you: such as on weekends and public holidays.
Don’t already have an HSBC credit card? The $199/year HSBC Platinum Qantas Visa includes complimentary Frequent Values membership and is currently offering 60,000 bonus Qantas Points when spending $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first three months, plus up to one Qantas Point per $1 spent.
