Hilton on the Park to become Pullman Melbourne on the Park hotel

The long-standing Hilton on the Park hotel will leave the Hilton group to become the Pullman Melbourne on the Park hotel from January 1 2015, under the ownership of Accor.

The 419-room property sits within walking distance of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena, Olympic Park and AAMI Park, allowing easy access to events such as the Australian Open and the Ashes Series.

It’s also at the eastern end of the Melbourne CBD for business travellers, with the centre of the city just a short journey away.

“It makes sense for us to grow this brand in Melbourne where there is clear demand for quality internationally-branded hotels aimed at the corporate and upscale leisure markets,” said Simon McGrath, Accor’s CEO Asia Pacific.

The existing Hilton on the Park property has an Executive Lounge for travellers staying on the Executive floors, and for Hilton HHonors Diamond members:

From the New Year, the lounge doors open to Accor Le Club Platinum members, who have access regardless of the room type booked or received.

There’s also meeting space including a boardroom…

… a dedicated events foyer with viewing balconies for the property’s lavish chandeliers…

… and a day spa to unwind after a long day:

Accor Le Club members will be able to earn points when staying at the Pullman Melbourne on the Park hotel, with eligible members receiving their usual benefits such as free room upgrades and Internet access, in addition to lounge access for Platinum guests.

The Hilton South Wharf hotel remains an option for Hilton HHonors members heading to Melbourne, with a centrally-located DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne hotel opening its doors in December.

The Pullman Melbourne on the Park will become the second Pullman in the Victorian capital, following the newly-renovated Pullman Melbourne Albert Park hotel.

    Have a booking here in mid January. Presumably they won't be obliged to provide the free breakfast I should/would get as a Hilton Gold?

    And I'm betting my Accor Gold status won't be near enough to score me enough of an upgrade to get Lounge access, which Hilton Gold is usually pretty good for.

    How very annoying.

    When I initially heard about this I thought it was an odd time to switch management contracts, but I suppose they've got a month and a half to implement and train staff in the new system.

    I'm guessing Jan 2015 is going to be a big month for this property and one I would suspect they'd want lots of work going on around.

    I have stayed at this hotel a fair few times and always enjoyed it.

    Hopefully Pullman do a good job.

    The Hilton South Wharf was great too but just so far away from everything.

    I recall staying there in the late 70's when we returned to Australia before my parents bought a house, we were there for about 3 months.
