Hilton HHonors offers Diamond status match

Hilton HHonors offers Diamond status match

Want to enjoy perks such as free breakfast, space-available room upgrades and access to Executive Lounges at hotels like Hilton, Conrad and DoubleTree by Hilton?

Then move fast and take advantage of a Hilton HHonors ‘status match’ deal whereby your existing top-tier loyalty card with programs like Hyatt Gold Passport, Starwood Preferred Guest and IHG Rewards Club can be used to gain HHonors Diamond status.

Importantly, you won’t forfeit your original hotel loyalty tier. Hilton simply bumps you up to Diamond – waiving the usual nights/stays requirements and offering all Diamond benefits from your first stay as an encouragement to shift your business across from competitors to its own hotels.

There’s also hope for mid-tier Gold members of other hotel loyalty programs: Hilton’s offer as published by its representative on the Flyertalk website doesn’t specifically rule out matching Gold for Gold, so if your wallet packs a shiny card from another hotel chain, it doesn’t hurt to apply.

Hilton HHonors status match: how to apply

If you’re not already a member of Hilton’s free-to-join HHonors scheme, register online and make a note of your HHonors membership number.

Then gather ‘proof’ of your existing hotel status, which can either be a photo of your in-date membership card or a clear screenshot of your current account status from that program’s website in either JPG, PDF or Word document format.

Next, fire off an email to HHonorMyStatus@hilton.com by January 11 2016 containing your name, your HHonors number and that proof of your existing hotel status with a competing chain.

You’ll receive an automated response in the hours after sending your email, followed by Hilton’s decision on your match within five business days.

Hilton HHonors status match: what you get

Assuming your match is approved your newfound status will be valid through March 31 2017, giving you ample time to make use of its benefits.

For Diamond members that begins with free ‘premium’ Internet access and two bottles of water per stay at the bulk of Hilton’s hotel brands, late check-outs where available, free access to hotel gyms at properties where a fee would apply and a 50% boost on points earned on hotel stays.

At Conrad, Hilton, Curio and DoubleTree properties that’s joined by complimentary breakfast, Executive Lounge access during your stay wherever one is available, space-available room upgrades and 1,000 bonus HHonors points per stay.

With so many perks right off the bat, you'll be jumping for joy too...

Waldorf Astoria hotels also provide room upgrades but instead with choice between other amenities such as in-room movies, discounts at the spa or restaurant or a simple 1,000 bonus points.

Gold members aren’t far behind with free standard Internet access, bottled water, gym access, late check-out and space-available room upgrades across many hotels, although Executive Lounge access only comes when booking or being upgraded to a room type that provides this benefit.

Members who notch up 20 stays, 40 nights or 75,000 HHonors ‘base points’ during the 2016 calendar year will attain HHonors Gold for an additional 12 months, while 30 stays, 60 nights or 120,000 HHonors ‘base points’ keeps your Diamond status in-check for another year.

Status Matches are lucrative and we all love to take part (I just managed to grab Hyatt Diamond from their promo so I can't talk or complain) But its a shame for us Diamonds who earn it that every Australian with a hotel card will be nabbing our upgrades when websites as huge as AUSBT promote them...

Wouldn't it only be a problem if they then chose to stay with Hilton rather than their usual chain, which is kind of the point of offering the status match?

Like I said, I can't complain or talk, but that doesn't mean its not a talking point, and we've all made use of these promotions. If it's available, we all have the right to use and access it.

    "I can't complain or talk"

So you contradict yourself by complaining about the dilution of status as a result of status matching?

    I think you should stop...

So does mean if you have Blue Level with Hilton Honours, they will upgrade you to Diamond Status?

If you have an elite loyalty card with a different hotel chain and Hilton deems your match successful, you could indeed be upgraded straight to Diamond.

I have had the privilege of HH Diamond since 2007. It is an excellent program and the recognition at the hotel level is also excellent - upgrades, exec lounge access, late check out etc. Recently I signed up for a corporate program through the Singapore sales office that provides 10% off the best rate around Asia-Pacific locations so they really do look after their members.

But, in some places there are no Hilton options. Do other hotel groups have status match? Mandarin Oriental, Shangri La, Starwood would be very handy if they can status match the HH Diamond level.
