MI SIN/CNS 738

Does anyone else think SQ/MI are really pushing it, operating this sector on a MI 737-800? 

It's a flight over 6h long with domestic-style recliners in J! I know CNS is a leisure port but from SIN, that's really taking the mickey! 
Anyone of you willing to fork out good money to fly in J on this sector?

Axe this route or reduce frequency with SQ A330. Not a good KF redemption.

They should at least move CNS to Zone 8 (on par with PER, DRW) on the redemption table.

I don't disagree with you but it's hardly abnormal - QR, EY, QF, SQ all have 5+ hour flights that they deploy recliner seats on. It's not great by today's standards (just look how good the options are between the east coast and Perth!) but it's one of the realities of the industry; less good fit-outs will be deployed on routes where the seats will be purchased regardless, such as monopoly routes.

Welcome to life in North Australia TRB, the Phillipines Airlines A320 to Manila from Cairns is about the same I think, 6.5 hours in a standard recline, it's why many in the North still take the 2-3 hours south to BNE or SYD and then return back North again, for about the same price there are lots of options with better outcomes,  I am in TSV and never consider flights through CNS as a viable option.

I wouldn't fork out for J but for as direct link to Singapore, it's great. As a local it's much more convenient than going through Brisbane or Darwin.

having just got off (today) back to back Silkair and Singapore airlines flights I must say I'd prefer silk air.


The staff were much friendlier, food was better (they could improve on drinks and entertainment) but for a "regional" carrier I could not fault them.

Okay sure the SQ A330 was a nicer plane but you have to remember there needs to be enough demand to get the larger aircraft. I didn't even use the IFE screen on the SQ flight (just slept/used own device).

I'm also not sure where the seat complaining comes from as you've clearly never flown a coast to coast in the US when it's not on a flatbed aircraft.

Transcon in both US and Australia are now at least 80% fully flat.

I have flown trans-con domestically in the US in recliners. This was before the big 3 US carriers changed the game and went flatbeds on principal routes. At that time, recliners were what the market offered so it was tolerated.

Back to CNS, the treatment from SIN to other AU ports (except DRW) are superior i.e. the market is offering better than the current MI recliners. Hence that is the issue. 

But as someone commented, CNS seems to be the market where this is tolerated in favour of a more direct routing (e.g. Philippines Airlines). If the CNS market is happy with that, go figure...

Malaysia Airlines Business Class B737 to Darwin is much better than SilkAir B737.
