Etihad Boeing 787 swapped for 777 on BNE-AUH

I'm flying on 08 July in business with EY and noticed today, without them advising me, that they've swapped the 787-9 for a 777-300 on that day. I can now get the window seat I previously couldn't, however the product isn't as good. Anyone had the same experience or know if this is permanent? I know they are costcutting and pulled out of Perth. Ominous or just unlucky?

I recently flew with NZ from EZE to AKL, this was originally a 787, but was switched to a 777.

I asked the cabin manager why and said there is an issue with 787 Rolls Royce engines and that they can’t currently be used on routes where the aircraft is more than a particular amount of time from a diversion airport en route?

Could it be the same thing with the EY 787’s?

The 77W is on the BNE route every now and again due to increased loads. They are not cost cutting but adding more capacity when needed to fantastic loads.

FYI EY's 787's aren't impacted by those same problems.

EY uses General Eletric Engines on their 787's (as does QF and JQ) and aren't impacted by the same problems that Rolls Royce based 787's like the ones operated by NZ are.

I also heard to increase capacity as loads are often north of 90%. There is a strong possibility of them doing double daily from BNE once there finances are in order.

Also the routes that are significantly affected by the RR Trent issue are the long routes with no diversion ports in close proximity (ie trans pacific routes such as EZE-AKL). In time RR engines will hopefully be cleared back to their full ETOPS-330 rating

It is very positive. Monthly load factor every month is 90% +. There was rumours they were going to add a 2nd daily before the financial problems so it has always been on the cards. Maybe 1-2 years and you never know.

Ok, interesting on the loads. I would have thought they may have sent a courtesy email to advise, rather than for me to have to find out myself by accident. If your spending $6-7k it's not too much to ask for a quick automated email advising you they've changed the aircraft. Ultimately when you look at the decision to purchase the ticket, the product is a big factor, and I'm not sure I'd have booked EY if I knew it would be the B777

I think it is an airline process that needs changing. When i travelled with SQ (in economy) - i was advised that my pre-selected seat had been changed, which prompted me to check the reason - and hence the equipment change.
