United has beaten Air NZ to the punch in announcing the long rumoured Auckland - Chicago O’Hare non-stop flights. The Chicago Tribune has reported the flights will start Nov 30. on 787-9s three times a week. UAs SFO-AKL will also switch back to a year round service in 2019

NZ most probably will have a codeshare on it. So unlikely that they were caught unawares. I

Where on earth do you get your information from?. Air New Zealand has just announced their non stop route from Auckland to Chicago beating United Airlines.

Chicago Tribune Fake news - its an error - Air New Zealand ( not United ) are using their metal into Chicago - great new Air NZ route on V2 configured dreamliner

Air NZ Website is quoting 16 hours 20 mins for southbound. Approx 15 hours northbound. Suprised AUSBT has yet to post an article on this great new connection?

The Tribune reported, correctly, that Air NZ was starting this route. The Tribune seemingly was reporting off a United press release.

I believe the OP was stating that United has stolen Air NZ thunder by announcing the route (to be flown by Air NZ) before Air NZ had announced it.

Now that makes more sense after what I’d heard. That’s great

Sorry I should have mentioned it’s Air NZs flight/metal. I was more intrigued that UA announced it officialy before NZ

Look forward to Qantas announcing a direct flight to Chicago. It may happen once the current four, and next four have arrived, and proved their worth.
