Challenges with Emirates seating as a QFF

I’m interested to get a view from this group. Need to travel Melbourne to Dublin return in Feb...booked with QF code share on Emirates, as outbound is via London. Seating with Emirates has been challenging. The TA booked window seat near front of the aircraft, but Emirates have changed the allocation to one at the back to the A380, and won’t shift to a further forward again. Emirates now say that forward window seats are taken, yet also state that the flight is wide open. QFF advise they can’t do anything, as it’s an Emirates flight.

I’m conscious that this is a first world problem as I’m fortunate enough to travel in J, but interested to see if the group has any thoughts on ta way to get a better seat reinstated. As a Platinum QFF I would have thought some status value would be available, but Emirates call centre were most unhelpful and push me to the TA, who tell me Emirates are the ones that have changed the seat...


Thinking it might be worth the extra few hours to return via London on the QF 10 service...

Did you log into your booking on the EK website with the EK PNR, check your QFF number is correctly entered and then try to select seats yourself? I seem to remember that when you do this, the Emirates system recognises you as QF platinum and opens up more seats on the seat map (not on the Qantas site, only on the Emirates site).

Hello AGoldring. It sounds a bit strange that you can't select the seats you want being a QF platinum travelling in business. You can use Seat Expert to see if the seats are really taken or not. I wonder if it is because you used a travel agent? I have booked thought the QANTAS site on a number of trips and booked EK flights. Generally, I find that the seats I can select on the QF site are more expansive than the ones on the EK site. For example, I quite like the window seats at the very front of business. The EK site does not offer these - but the QF site did offer them. Maybe this is just my idiosyncratic experience. Mos is correct to recommend getting onto the EK site Use your QF PNR to get into the site. You will generally then see the EK. PNR. Log out and try that. The only problem that can arise from this is that the EK and QF seat selections can get out of sync. This is a real pain. I solved this by 'unselecting' the seats in the EK site. I haven't flown with EK for a year or so - so my advice might be out of date - but I hope this helps.

AGoldring I did a recent trip to Dublin and flew through LHR on QF9. My original return was on a QF codeshare with Emirates via Dubai which I subsequently changed. There is an Emirates PNR number which you can get from qantas and then go to manage my booking and select your seats. Hope this helps.

I have solved this problem by ringing Qantas FF and get the Emirates booking reference which is different to QFone ans then ring Emirates and request on the phone. This works even if a bit involved. Regards
