Emirates' Airbus A380 coming back to Brisbane

By Packetman21 | Aug 30, 2018, 04:16 PM
Hi all,

I’ve just heard on the radio (NOVA1069) an Emirates ad saying the A380 is coming back to Brisbane on 1st of September (date may be wrong).

Sounds like great news! Hopefully it’s true since 1st September seems a little close...

Yep, EK435 BNE/DXB back to A380 from 02Sep, it was always scheduled this way, had been a downgrade to a 777 for a set period over Northern Summer... they are just taking advantage of the return to the A380 with advertising on web, etc.

A380 has the cheapest seats for an airline - if they can fill the'plane, presumably they can in the summer on Australia and Europe!

The temporary downgrade also happened not long after Emirates launched a third daily flight between Brisbane and Dubai (first using a Boeing 777-200LR, and shortly thereafter upgraded to a Boeing 777-300ER which has more seats), so downgrading another flight from the A380 for a short period (reducing seat count on that flight by ~150, while the new flight is bringing in ~360 extra seats each day) very likely keeps yields more favourable during that expansion phase, but great that Brisbane's A380 is coming back.

Emirates said all along that this was only ever a temporary measure and that the A380 would return in September 2018. I heard that this was due to staffing issues at EK for the reason the A380 was pulled from the route and as far as I am aware, Brisbane was not the only port effected.
