Classic Flight Rewards - one seat vs two seats? Is there a trick?

By PG44 | Mar 08, 2019, 10:32 PM
Hi,
I am silver and my partner is silver.
Looking to book 2 x classic reward business seats to US.
When I put one adult, there are seats showing on certain dates.... but when I select two, they disappear....

My question is - does that mean that there is only one seat available on those days?
Or is there a limit of one ticket per person?
If I buy one, and then log in with her account, is there likely to be another seat showing up?
Or should I just assume there is only one seat left?

Thanks!

You should assume there is just one seat left.
Often they will release one now and maybe one at a later date.
I would recommend booking one so at least you have one, and either continue to check for a second or purchase a second.
Often a second might come up. If not, you can always then cancel the first seat if you decide not to go or buy both seats.

I had the same issue, the ‘trick’ I used was book one ticket with my account and the other with my wife’s (had two seperate browsers opened at once).
That way I could tell I was limited to one seat due to status, not availability (I’m bronze, so is my wife).

Good luck 🍀

Thanks aidan, I'm thinking about trying the trick of booking with two different accounts on two different laptops/browser windows at the same time... Just nervous about booking one, then getting an error message at checkout for the other one...saying 'something went wrong, seat is no longer available, etc'. Don't really want to purchase a J seat

Ok here is how todo it since your are using 2 laptops. Put both laptops in ‘private’ browsing. Then go through each laptop step by step. Then you can hit confirm on both at the same time.

Let me know how you go...

Other thing you can do is if you know someone that is a gold or higher to check what availability they see. Then you can confirm if the limitation is status..

How does this help if the inventory (for your given status level or altogether) is exhausted by the first confirm to hit the database?

It seems, and you would expect this, that the inventory is checked when you click the final confirm - I have been given the no-longer-available message at that point which indicates that the actual inventory updates in real time but the Qantas calendar availability display does not.

Clicking on two laptops at once isn't going to help you if there was only one seat left available.

This is based on my scenario which was as a bronze only 1 ticket would be released per bronze member, but not 2. I made sure I could get to the confirm page on with each membership.

Have you actually tried going step by step with both memberships ?

My point is that you have no idea if this will work until you actually buy a seat, since the inventory will display until someone actually buys it. So getting to the confirm page doesn't tell you anything. As I said, I've been through the confirm page before and still failed.

I accept that it worked in your example, but you had no way of knowing that it would until the first ticket was confirmed.

Buying a ticket consecutively on two laptops has got to be the dumbest idea ever.

What happens if there actually is one seat left over? So you manage to get a ticket in business class (which you now can't change), what about the other person? Go buy economy and sit separately?

You can do it on two browser screens as said before worked for me both got to the confirm screen. You obviously haven’t tried and understand web pages mr analogue.

Cool sorry misread the failed part... Apart from calling to check what can be booked over the phone or getting someone with higher status to book (assuming it’s a status issue) then I personally can’t think of any other options..

Hope you figure something out or avail pops up for you in time.

So anyway, I managed to sit down with a friend today who is platinum, and we logged in with his account, and it wouldn't be let him book 2 seats either. That seems to give more weight to the possibility that there really is only one ticket on sale... Not sure that I'm willing to risk it. I might just need to settle for premium economy instead

Yep that is a safe bet and glad you got to the bottom of this.

Obviously you have probably thought of 1 x Award and 1 x purchase in business class.

Safe travels.
