Qantas chauffeur from Heathrow to Gatwick?

By mern2001 | Jan 06, 2019, 07:29 PM
Hello all. I wanted some advice on getting a chauffeur service from Heathrow to Gatwick airports. I'm arriving on QF9 flying in business at Heathrow and then need to transfer for a flight on BA from Gatwick to Tenerife. I have around seven hours between flights - so the timing should be fine. Because I arrive on QF9 flying in business, I qualify for the free chauffeur service. I notice that the terms and conditions of the service preclude transfers between terminals - but is it OK to use the chauffeur service to transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick? Has anyone done this? Many thanks in advance.

I think that only terminals switching is not permitted as it would function as a normal chauffeur as if you booked it yourself. However, there are no other terms suggesting that you cannot go to another airport. The service Qantas advertises suggests the driving to your home, hotel or office. The only requirement as far as I could find is that it has to be within a 70-mile radius of the airport, including all Greater London postcodes. Going to Gatwick from Heathrow is only around 40 miles so I'm sure it will be fine.

Furthermore, if you booked a hotel in Gatwick Airport, would they not drive you there too? So I think there would be no issue in getting them to drive you to Gatwick. If you have doubts about this, I'd suggest you give them a call.

I actually did this last year! Heathrow to Gatwick is within the permitted radius for the Qantas chauffeur drive service. Hopefully you don't have any checked luggage because although QF9 currently gets into Heathrow at 5am you won't want to spend too much time waiting around while the morning traffic starts to build up, but if you can be off QF9 and through immigration quick enough you will avoid the worst of it.

Thanks Djtech and Bob. It looks as if I have my answer: I can use the QANTAS chauffeur service to transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick. Avoiding checked luggage is a good idea.I arrived last year on QF9 and was through immigration and customs before the place had even started to get busy.

I've done this also.
The chauffeur will wait up to an hour after they had planned to depart with you (~30 minutes after the plane lands), so I spent that hour freshening up at the arrivals lounge and traffic was still fine at that time.
Since I also had a long connection I diverted the chauffeur to the Horley Leisure Centre for a swim (the centre reception looked after my to-be-checked luggage) before getting the bus the extra 5 mins to Gatwick - anything's possible!

I very much doubt you will have a problem transferring to Gatwick terminal with the Chauffeur service. If in the very rare chance you do, ask to be taken to the Hilton Gatwick Airport (it’s just across the road from the terminal building).

Or even closer, the Premier Inn Gatwick airport. Any closer and you’d be on the runway. And dont be worriedi if you are North or South Terminal at Gatwick as the free shuttle is a matter of minutes.

100% agreed. The M25 is the most direct route but that sector from LHR to Gatwick is amongst the most congested. On a bad day it can be really bad. Mind you it's your driver doing the work so kick back and enjoy the ride (albeit the views are not crash hot - 6/8 lanes of traffic).
