Filthy tray tables

Has anyone else been disappointed by the cleanliness of the tray tables? It seems like crumbs and drink stains are par for the course. I was unable to add a photograph from a Qantas flight today. Often you can be frightened to open the tray table because you don't know what might end up on your lap. This extends to premium cabins including a recent EK first flight.

I had a tray table completely graffitied with a black pen on a jetstar flight. The things you give up for a cheap ticket...

Cleaning cabin crew don’t have the time to wipe down every tray table when a plane is at an airport in transit. Many only sit on the ground for an hour or less. May be in the future, passengers would be required to leave the tray table open, as then they would see which ones require cleaning.

I always travel with wipes. Lesson learned from too many sticky trays. And yes, they aren't cleaned between flights, especially domestic.

Absolutely agree. I've really noticed this in the past year or two, which I had not before (because the tables were generally clean). Qantas domestic planes are often quite dirty across the board, as they clearly aren't vacuumed between fights. It has to be said that the black material seats don't help, they show everything up!

Another reason for us to take the earliest flight out!

Several evidence-based studies conclude tray tables in an aircraft have more bacteria than toilets. Enjoy your lunch...

I just wonder how many parents change tot on the tray table, if the tot is still young.
Or on their lap and put the you know what on the tray table.
I have sat in the 2nd last row of the 737, and on some flights, parents don't seem to get up with tot at all, scary what the idle mind can think up during a long flight.

Not only dirty tray tables, but also windows and the back of seats, sometimes have dried orange parts to them, look like it was food stains that have been splashed when the food trays are opened to be eaten.
Either curry, or dried tomato chutney that go with the QF and VA snack dips, perhaps.
Have never opened those tear off salsa dip pods since I got my first one, no way to open those things daintily, as they have a mind of their own.

Two words: hand sanitiser. I carry a mini-bottle with me at all times.
