Qantas Boeing 747 refurbishment plans

Does anyone know if QF have plans to refurb their remaining 747's. I see they are still flying them to South Africa at least for this year?

QF plans to retire the entire remaining 747 fleet by the end of 2020. One can safely assume that they won't be refurbing any more 747 aircraft.

QF does plan to start refurbing the A380 aircraft next year and there are plans to refurb the remaining A330 with old seating as well I think

They did consider doing so prior to the decision to retire them in 2020, but decided against it, due to high costs in doing so.

OEB had a mini-refresh prior to the charter it was on, that is about the extent of any planned works. That is the only 747 without the A380 refurb.

anyone have any insights into what type of aircraft they would use to Johannesburg and Santiago once the 744's are retired.
(I saw they tried an A330 to JNB via PER, but Perth airport said no)

Subject to CASA giving them ETOPS 330 approval, I'd expect the 787 to both.

Probably upgrade SCL from 4x daily to weekly with the smaller 787, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a PER-JNB or MEL-PER-JNB 330 to supplement a SYD-JNB 787.

Also somewhat dependent on if/when QF gets Project Sunrise aircraft as this may free up some A380s

Does anyone know when Perth hope to have the new International Terminal up and running? Then Qantas will also be able to use it for their international service. Perth are currently a stick in the mud, and it was a no brainer to not allow a Qantas A330 to use the Qantas terminal for JNB flights.

Wouldn't it make sense for QF to have their operations fully based out of T3/4 and not having a single flight based out of T1?

The new terminal isn’t due until the early 2020s. There are rumours swirling about that Alan Joyce has locked down a very good deal for QF with Perth Airport, it’s just a matter of finding spare aircraft before they commit.

Either qantas scraps SCL and JNB or flies A380's on them
