Upgrade probability SYD>NYC early December

By DVDA | Nov 12, 2017, 04:54 PM
Advice much appreciated.

Context: WP travelling 1 December, QF 11, SYD > JFK, PE full flexi, requested upgrade to J. Returning QF12, 8 December, same fare/request etc.

Early December is heavily booked and judging by T80, QF website and advice from call centre, the chances of upgrade are close to zero.

All thoughts welcome.

Alternatives, fly SYD/MEL/LAX/JFK or SYD/BNE/LAX/JFK. Problem here is that the flights are longer and connect with either AA or UA for LAX to JFK, also fewer points/SC's.

It's a work trip to NY and return flight upgrade is priority as I immediately travel to Gold Coast upon arriving back in Sydney for another work event.

DVDA, please don't use profanity on the site. I've edited your poll to remove it.

What status are you if any ? To state the obvious if you're your travelling solo higher status will see at the front or near to of the queue n a good chance !

Thanks for the reply and to those who voted. I'm QF Platinum and travelling solo, looks like there are about 3 seats left on the way over and about the same on the return.

I wouldn't give much wait to how many seats are left until closer to departure given that people will move into F from J and free up seats there.

If you're transiting from one work event to another and your employer requires you to be functional for the event. Then they should be outright paying for the business class ticket to start with.

It's the only definite way to get what's required. Upgrades are just a matter of luck. Try to get the flight on one of the quieter days of the week is the only other option you have available if they won't pay for it.

Most smart employers recognise that their staff need adequate rest to be able to do their job effectively.
