First Qantas Boeing 787: arrival into Sydney on Oct 20

As many Australian Business Traveller readers would know, the first Qantas Boeing 787-9 arrives at Sydney Airport this coming
Friday, October 20... indeed, seven readers will be there to welcome it, having won invitations to the exclusive official arrival event at Hangar 96 on the Qantas' Sydney Jetbase, just around from SYD T3.
For those who won't be there are are still keen to hear the details: Qantas tells us they're planning for touchdown at Sydney around 7.10am, following an 11.45pm departure from our stopover in Honolulu on Wednesday October 18 (US time): you can fire up your favourite flight tracking app and watch for QF7879.
The Dreamliner is actually due into Sydney around 7am on Friday to allow time for a ‘low flyover’ over Sydney Harbour (weather and Air Traffic Control permitting).
Upon landing you can can expect the mandatory water canon salute; the aircraft will then roll straight around to T3 and into Hangar 96.
(Just FYI: the original plan was for QF7879 to pull into the international terminal, where we'd disembark for customs & immigration clearance, then go back through the staff channel and hop back onto the 787-9 to have it taxi around to T3... this time-consuming process was what we did for previous delivery flights such as the 'RetroRoo' Boeing 737. However, we'll now see QF7879 taxi straight around to Hangar 96, where we’ll disembark via stairs and be processed through an on-the-spot 'pop up' customs/immigration post).

Enjoy David & co. Really looking forward to your stories on the interior etc.

I take it Qantas, Boeing, and your press buddies have a big week in Seattle planned

The 'big week' actually started today, as you can see from the stories posted... more tomorrow, which is based on the unveiling of the first red-tailed Dreamliner (and the reveal of its name, for the avgeeks who are about such) and a walk-through of the cabin.

Strange question and I'm not sure if I've seen an answer to it but... Will the 787's be factory fitted with WiFi? or will they receive it before the start of the PER-LHR flights?

Will miss the seeing in the morning and hoping to see it in the afternoon. David since you are in the prime position in Seattle, interested in the new lot of pilots trained to fly the 787. Are they from the 380 fleet who are switching over or are they from 330 fleet.

No idea – we don't cover issues such as pilot training as we're not an aviation website.
