Don't use Alaska miles when redeeming Qantas flights!!!

There's flights with business class availability for 55000 miles + $45. However, all of them were mixed cabin and involve one domestic sector, like "MEL-SYD in business, SYD-LAX in coach", which means you're flying the sector to LAX in economy, huh???

(for instance, economy all the way costs you about 42500 miles)

Not sure this is Alaska's fault.
Qantas simply doesn't have any availability between US and Australia in business class, so an economy segment from SYD to LAX is all it could reasonably offer.

Have a look what Qantas does on its own website.

Often they'll have Australia to the US in First class but look carefully and you'll see that your flight between Australia and the US is in Economy or Premium Economy sometimes.

If you used webjet for booking, and chose business as your class of travel between Australia and US ports other than direct entry points, cheapest fares are all mixed classes. As they do not have mixed classes option to choose from, this seems to be the industry standard? Always worth checking this carefully prior to purchase.
