Best and worst lounge on the Qantas network, and why? Hot Topic

By henrus | Feb 26, 2017, 10:12 PM

I'd love to hear what others think about the Qantas lounges and share some of the experiences.

My favourites are Hong Kong lounge for the Food, Brisbane International lounge for the Juice machine upstairs and Townsville for the excellent selection of magazines and super friendly staff. I haven't been to many regional lounges so I can't comment on those but I think one of the worst I've been to would have to be the Sydney International Business lounge as I always struggle to find a seat (I must admit I've only been through twice, both in the evening peak).

My favourites are HK and SIN, maybe HK wins just by the open air space. Great food offering especially with the plate of the day. Modern clean design and generally good service too. Will check out the new BNE int'l lounge this Sat so looking forward to that.

The bad ones..hmmm....Auckland is definitely not good, although QF is hinting a reno there soon. Mel domestic Qantas Club can definitely do with a major reno....and Mel int'l could do with a better location, preferably with natural light.

I think the Sydney International J lounge is terrible, just too overcrowded all the time. Agree the Melbourne Qantas Club needs some major work.

I quite like the HK lounge as I like the open space, also the SIN lounge I think is quite good for the bar and food choices. I think the LA lounge is right up there...for being, well very LA.

Agree about Townsville, staff are great and the lounge has a good feeling, the only negative is they close it for 4 hours in the middle of the day, and Melbourne QClub is definitely the worst.

If you think that Sydney J lounge is terrible then you really should try Melbourne "bunker" - IMHO by all merits Sydney domestic lounge is by far better!

A very interesting topic for discussion!

Okay, I'm obviously going to nominate the Sydney First lounge as best in the network – but if we're looking beyond the obvious I'd pick the Perth business lounge as the best domestic lounge (subject to what we may see next month at its new Brisbane sibling), and I'd happily go with Singapore or Hong Kong for the best international 'premium' (combined first/business) lounge... different people prefer one over the other for different reasons, I'd agree that Hong Kong has more 'ambience' but then Singapore has cocktail superstar Ronald at the bar!

The worst? I'm thinking Auckland, although Melbourne's bunker-like international business lounge is a close call.

The Melbourne bunker is one to avoid... Sydney First lounge is absolutely flawless and is my favourite 😊

HK best. Was their last Thu night - Ela & the girls behind the bar make a mean martini.
Sing. not far behind, gr8 food
Sydney Intn'l is atrocious now they have changed that seating in the main area to fit more pax in & like a morgue compared to the atomosphere in HK.
Both Melbourne are worse than Sydney.
Looking forward to trying the new Brisbane Int'l as well, later in the year

Best Qantas club is Darwin , although the airside view is no longer as good.

Agreed with HK and SIN, great int lounges....I think all the old Australian/NZ international lounges are pretty poor..MEL, PER, AKL and SYD in that order

I'll put in a vote for good old MEL F haha but if we're talking J then MEL definitely does not take first. AKL is pretty lousy now but thankfully signs suggest it's well and truly on the list for an upgrade! I'm putting good money on LHR being up there with the best IF it has some airside views and isn't too claustrophobic - if it beats the BA and AA offerings which it likely will, there'll be a lot of One World customers very keen to use it.

I definitely think that the Business domestic lounge in SYD is getting tired, the showers are not hot enough and not enough of them. SYD First is still excellent. Adelaide always a pleasure and now the new Perth lounges make that a nicer place to travel through. QF don't have a lounge in Jakarta (CGK) and the two available generic lounges are probably the worst I have come across. QF Singapore and HK are great, but CX lounges in HKG take some beating!

SYD and LAX F lounges now a tie for best.

AKL lounge is where they shot "The Hobbit" 's indoor scenes!

The SYD and LAX F get equal first prize. The worst is HNL J class.

Worst by a country mile is Auckland. I will fly Emirates out of Auckland rather the Qantas to make sure that I can use their lounge - great early dinner at Auckland before getting the flight back to Sydney

Coolangatta has to be the worst in terms of smaller domestic airports.

Auckland is so tired now, but I can't vote for it as it now has macabre sentimental value (pretty much like my attachment to BNE international before the upgrade) - and from time to time the food they serve is outstanding - lamb medallions , pies, sushi rolls...

Best domestic lounge - Sydney

Best international lounge - I'm torn between Sydney and LAX (First) - if both introduced some decent work/snack desks they would be perfect...
