Where's the customs office at Melbourne Tullamarine?

By bloatedstoat | Jun 16, 2019, 08:25 PM
Hello,
I'm an Aussie resident taking some camera equipment I bought here in Australia overseas and have filled out the B263 form "Goods Exported in Passenger Baggage". I have to lodge the form and provide the equipment for evidencing at the Customs Office at the departure airport - in this case Melbourne Tullamarine.

Could someone advise where the customs office is to do this?

Thank you.

It's downstairs (the arrivals level) in T2, on the far right-hand side as you're looking at it from outside. It's more-or-less underneath the Qantas check-in area.

However, in April when I went to do a TRS claim for items in my luggage I was told, very rudely, that if it was not an item on their little card - I don't recall everything on it but there was very little, that they refused to process the claim - despite what their own website says. Fortunately the lines past passport control were so long they were handing out claim forms to be processed later and didn't care about not seeing the goods being taken out of the country.

Why is rudeness such a common feature of interaction with Customs and other airport officials in Australian cities? I too have experienced it frequently. Do they have a special class at training school on how best to alienate the travelling public? By contrast, in the U.S. almost without exception I have been addressed as "sir" and treated with courtesy and respect. Even at LAX - lol.

Thank you SIbelius, exactly what I wanted. Appreciated.

The person who changed the subject line of my post which now infers I'm seeking the TRS refund office, I am not. If this office also serves as the TRS office then my apologies, I was always under the impression the TRS office is beyond passport control en-route to duty free.

The B263 form is for registering items that were bought in Australia and will return to Australia in my luggage. This is so I don't get collared by customs on my return and be expected to pay duty on expensive camera equipment. I merely present the stamped form to the examining ABF officer.

Thank you.

The customs office and TRS for in luggage items is in the same office as described, downstairs T2.

Sorry if I have got this wrong.. but I tend to keep receipts. Surely customs would accept a receipt with date/serial no etc , particularly for expensive cameras as proof of purchase in Australia. Saves mucking around with lodging forms etc.

Conversely, filing a B263 presumably saves mucking about with trying to find where you keep all your receipts and having to extract the specific receipts that cover the specific set of equipment you're bringing with you, I guess...

(I try to keep all my receipts for any expensive stuff, especially now that so much of it is ordered online and so is just sitting there in my email, but I'm not very good at keeping receipts organised...)
