Time needed to clear Rome Immigration?

By mickeyg | Feb 17, 2019, 02:30 PM
I'm travelling to Rome (via Abu Dhabi) in May, arriving @ 6:30 on a Thursday morning. Anyone have any idea on how busy it is at that time and how much time is needed to clear immigration/customs and get to Rome Termini? Thanks.

Although there was no express lane for J and F customers, my last immigration entry in Rome was pretty fast. Took me less than 20 mins from landing to my chauffeur drive.

My hotel is relatively close to Rome Termini, it took me around 40 mins as there are several roads under construction.

There’s a high speed train from the airport direct to Termini, I suggest using it.

Rome has dedicated immigration lanes for AU/CA/KO/NZ/JP/US citizens.
When I arrived a couple of months ago, clearing immigration was instant.

In retrospect I'm not sure whether it was on inward or outward path through immigration when I was at FCO a few months back, but the signage for the dedicated lane didn't mention Australian citizens. While we hesitated, an official approached us, looked at the Aust passports and said 'US - Australia, same same'. So watch out for the US lane if you can't see AU/CA/KO/NZ/JP. It was very quick on the Thursday early morning that we arrived. The Leonardo Express to Termini station takes 32 minutes.

Inbound immigration is fairly quick; outbound immigration is horrendous. When I did this last year, it took close to an hour outbound.
