hi all,
with the recent changes to AMEX, what's the best credit card for ATO payments in terms of frequent flyer points ? I have previously paid upto 300K on AMEX.
is rewardspay a better option?
thanks

Do the maths on just paying cash. The price you pay for points when you pay the credit card surcharge make this formerly attractive option uneconomical.

Even with a (potential) tax deduction on the surcharge though ?
Net cost could be considerably reduced .
I haven't done the maths, but just another consideration.

My initial expectation is that it won't be justified though, that is, paying by Credit Card direct to the ATO.
It could be better reimbursing someone/entity (through the credit card) who's paid the tax on your behalf (using cash)

Assuming you have platinum charge card, paying directly to ATO earns 0.5 airline point per dollar (ppd) for 1.45%, so you are paying 2.9c/pt. Using reward pay, you are paying 2.365c for 1.125pt, or 2.1c/pt.

KF now charges over 100k points for one way to EU, at the rate above, it's over $4000 rt. (Or 58k to SE Asia, that's over $2100 rt). Although still cheaper than revenue, when you factor in loss of point earn, status, lack of flexibility, it may not be worthwhile anymore.
